Position Purpose
At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Oncology/Medical-Surgical delivers compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with cancer diagnoses and other acute medical conditions in an inpatient setting. This role is essential in providing specialized oncology treatments, managing complex medical-surgical needs, coordinating interdisciplinary care, and supporting patients and their families throughout their treatment and recovery journey.
What You Will Do:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology and medical-surgical patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, recognize changes in clinical status, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and oncology treatments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Manage symptoms related to cancer treatment, chronic illness, and acute medical conditions while promoting patient comfort and safety.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized plans of care.
- Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, symptom management, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation while adhering to quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current and valid Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of one year of acute care inpatient nursing experience.
- Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- One or more years of Medical-Surgical and/or Oncology nursing experience in an acute inpatient setting.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Position Highlights:
- Full-Time, 30 Hours/Night Shift (3-12 Hours 1st week then 2-12 the following week)
- Rotating Every 3rd Weekend / Every Other Holiday
- Hourly position, included in RN Step Program pay range: $36.15 to $59.95
