Health & Physical Education Teacher

Full-Time | Exempt
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:15 AM-2:15 PM
Anticipated Start: Fall 2026
Location: North Hudson Academy | North Bergen, NJ
Salary Range: $61,000-$80,000 annually

North Hudson Academy is looking for a passionate and student-centered Health & Physical Education Teacher to support learners ages 3-21 in a highly specialized educational environment.

As a New Jersey Department of Education-approved private school serving students with diverse learning, behavioral, emotional, and developmental needs, we provide individualized educational experiences that empower students to grow academically, socially, and physically.

This role offers an opportunity to create engaging lessons that encourage healthy habits, physical activity, teamwork, self-confidence, and personal achievement while helping students reach their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  • Design and deliver engaging health and physical education lessons aligned with New Jersey Student Learning Standards.
  • Adapt instruction to meet a variety of learning styles, abilities, and developmental needs.
  • Create opportunities for students to build motor skills, physical fitness, social interaction skills, and healthy decision-making habits.
  • Foster a positive classroom and activity environment that promotes participation, respect, and personal growth.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation of performance and achievement.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service providers, and school leadership to support student success.
  • Conduct routine reviews of equipment and activity spaces to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student development, accomplishments, and areas for growth.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Support school policies and contribute positively to the culture of the learning community.
  • Complete additional duties related to the position as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate with Health and Physical Education endorsement, or eligibility for certification.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional practices and classroom management strategies.
  • Strong communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
  • Current New Jersey residency, approved residency waiver, or willingness to establish residency within one year of employment.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred


  • Experience teaching students with disabilities, behavioral challenges, or autism spectrum disorders
  • Bachelord Degree in Health & Physical Fitness.
  • Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) or Teacher of the Handicapped certification.
  • Experience working in special education programs serving multiple age groups.
