Full job description
Hydraulics International, Inc. (HII) is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist to set up and operate CNC turning equipment used to manufacture precision metal components. This position works with CNC software, machine controls, tooling, and inspection equipment to ensure parts are produced accurately and in accordance with engineering drawings and quality requirements.
The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical and mathematical aptitude, extensive knowledge of CNC lathe operations, and the ability to troubleshoot machine, tooling, and program-related issues. This position requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the physical stamina necessary to work safely in a manufacturing environment.

Key Performance Deliverables
- Set up and operate CNC lathes to manufacture precision metal components in accordance with blueprints, work instructions, and specifications.
- Load, test, adjust, and run CNC part programs with a thorough understanding of machine controls and operating functions.
- Select, install, and adjust appropriate tooling, fixtures, jaws, and workholding devices.
- Perform machine offsets, tool changes, and program adjustments to maintain required dimensions and tolerances.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements, and technical specifications.
- Read measurements in both metric and standard units and convert accurately between measurement systems.
- Use machinist tools and precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and height gauges, to verify product quality.
- Apply knowledge of machine shop theory, shop mathematics, machining characteristics of materials, and layout techniques.
- Conduct in-process inspections and make necessary adjustments to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional requirements.
- Identify and troubleshoot machine, tooling, programming, and production issues.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment concerns or needed repairs.
- Maintain accurate production, inspection, and quality documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Build effective working relationships with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional team members.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Five or more years of CNC lathe setup and operating experience.
- Certificate in machine shop technology, machine tool technology, or a related machinist program is highly preferred.
- Experience setting up CNC lathes, selecting tooling, establishing offsets, and running production parts.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Working knowledge of shop mathematics, including decimals, fractions, geometry, and basic trigonometry.
- Ability to use a calculator and convert between metric and standard measurements.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments and machinist tools.
- Ability to identify and correct basic CNC program, tooling, and machine-related issues.
- One to two years of mechanical assembly experience is preferred.
- Must possess or have access to the machinist tools and measuring instruments required for the position.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and safely perform the physical requirements of a manufacturing position.
