Buyer/Planner
Catalent’s Chelsea, Massachusetts site—often referred to as the Boston location—is a global Center of Excellence for spray dry dispersion (SDD) and dry powder inhaler (DPI) capsule manufacturing and packaging, supporting inhalation drug products from clinical development through commercial launch. Located at 190 Everett Avenue, the approximately 96,000‑square‑foot GMP facility features ISO 8 production suites, high‑potency containment capabilities, and advanced spray drying equipment, including multiple large‑scale GMP spray dryers. The site offers integrated services such as powder processing, capsule filling, blister packaging, and on‑site quality control and analytical testing, with capacity to produce up to 100 million capsules annually. Strategically positioned just minutes from Boston Logan International Airport and within the Greater Boston life sciences hub, the Chelsea site plays a critical role in Catalent’s global inhalation network and regulatory‑compliant manufacturing operations.
Position Summary
We have an opportunity for a Buyer/Planner to join our team. This full-time, on-site position is responsible for overseeing material purchasing, managing supply chain requirements, and fostering strong supplier relationships. The Buyer/Planner works closely with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Management, and Finance, to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and seamless support of production schedules.
Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
Location: Chelsea, MA
100% Onsite
The Role
- Review and analyze daily material needs to ensure timely availability of materials for production schedules
- Schedule and prioritize material orders, expediting as necessary to meet production timelines
- Maintain vendor relationships, negotiate cost savings opportunities, and manage purchase orders and vendor setup in the system
- Monitor inventory levels, adjust reorder points, and identify opportunities for inventory optimization
- Collaborate with the finance team on monthly and quarterly audits, ensuring accurate invoicing and timely payments
- Identify and drive process improvements in material planning, purchasing, and supplier performance
- Support communication and alignment between internal teams such as Engineering and Manufacturing, and external vendors
- Perform all other duties as assigned
The Candidate
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required; Bachelor’s degree in business or related field is preferred
- 5+ years of experience in purchasing, inventory control, and warehousing is required
- Experience and proficiency in MRP/ERP systems (or equivalent) for inventory management
- Experience with purchasing and accounting processes
- The position requires the ability to perform various physical activities, including frequent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, pulling, and pushing. The role may require handling materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as needed
Preferred Skills & Background
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries is preferred
- Previous experience working in a cGMP manufacturing environment is strongly preferred
Pay
The anticipated salary range for this position in MA is $70,000 – $90,000 Plus Bonus. The final salary offered to a successful candidate may vary, and will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, skillset, education, business needs, etc. Catalent is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
