Full job description
Veterinary Assistant – AtlasVet
Location: 1326 H St NE, Washington, DC 20002
Pay: $23–$29/hour
AtlasVet is looking for an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our 11-doctor team in the heart of Washington, DC!
We are a fast-paced, progressive, AAHA-accredited hospital with a collaborative culture that values growth, communication, and exceptional patient care. If you're passionate about utilizing your technical skills, working alongside an engaged medical team, and continuing to develop your veterinary career, we'd love to meet you.
Schedule
- Four 10-hour shifts per week
- Ideally two opening shifts and two closing shifts
- Rotating Saturdays
Hospital Hours
- Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Friday: 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of 1 year of veterinary hospital experience
- Preferred proficiency in:
- IV catheter placement
- Venipuncture
- Anesthesia monitoring
- Anesthetic calculations
- Client communication and education
- Dental prophylaxis
- Dental radiography
- Assisting with and driving surgical flow efficiently

Your Impact as a Veterinary Assistant
- Provide Essential Patient Care: You'll be a key player in the health of our patients, assisting the medical team with hands-on care and ensuring every animal is treated with compassion and respect.
- Be the Go-To Support for the Medical Team: You'll be the backbone of the clinic, anticipating the needs of veterinarians and technicians to ensure a smooth, efficient, and collaborative workflow.
- Create a Positive Client Experience: You'll help create a seamless visit for our clients by assisting with scheduling, payments, and communications, always with a courteous and informative approach.

What You'll Bring to the Team
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A calm and efficient approach, with the ability to handle a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment with composure.
- Confidence and skill in handling pets of all sizes and temperaments.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in fundamental veterinary skills ranging from laboratory and pharmacy to nursing and radiology is a strong asset.
