Full job description
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Neurology
Join our Center for Excellence in Epilepsy and Neurology, with care focusing on children and families with epilepsy and neurological diagnosis at acute and intermediate levels of care. This is a 36 hour/week position on a 31-bed pediatric neuroscience unit, inclusive of a 12 bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Opportunity to flex cover the Neuro Critical Care consult service following additional orientation.
Key Responsibilities:
- First line care of Epilepsy and Neurology patient population on the inpatient neuroscience unit, including assessment and medical history, physical exams, diagnosis, and family centered care of patients and their families.
- Consulting in an interdisciplinary manner on all assigned inpatients during daily rounds and managing assigned patients throughout the course of the day.
- Participating in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives, as well as facilitation of patient/family and multidisciplinary team education.
- Assisting with admissions, discharges, care coordination, monitoring and counseling of patients, including telephone consultation.
- Assisting with the transition to home, continuity of care across the continuum, and family support and education.
- Contributing to the knowledge base of the profession and specialty programs through publications, presentations, and participation in the work of professional organizations.
- Working 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, rotating days M-F, rotating weekend and holiday requirement (approx. every 3rd weekend)
Education:
- A Master of Science in Nursing or a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies
- A minimum of 2 years acute care experience as a RN, NP, PA required
- Previous neuroscience and pediatric clinical experience strongly preferred
- Excellent critical thinking and communication skills required.
- A current Massachusetts NP (PNP or FNP) or PA license
- Certification with specialty area expected within 3 years
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
