Role Overview
In this field-based role, you will respond to service calls, diagnose equipment and system issues, and perform service, repairs, installation, and programming on electronic fire alarm systems and related building systems at customer sites. You will act as a trusted advisor, helping customers resolve service issues, improve building performance, and maintain reliable fire and life safety operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive service calls from the Service Resource Center and contact the customer representative to understand the reported equipment or system problem.
- Diagnose issues and perform service and repairs on electronic fire alarm systems and other related building system products at customer sites.
- Service, troubleshoot, install, and program fire alarm, security, and access control systems from multiple manufacturers, including SimplexGrinnell.
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software and system information, schematics, and operational product manuals.
- Follow prescribed troubleshooting procedures and use technical manuals, part manuals, change notices, bulletins, and modification notices to repair equipment.
- Provide customers with a high level of service by communicating clearly with district staff and customers to support satisfaction and timely resolution.
- Complete service acknowledgements with proper coding using smart phones and laptop computers, and obtain customer signatures upon completion of service.
- Participate in a scheduled on-call rotation and support training or mentoring of other team members as needed.
- Provide recommendations, solutions, and quotes to help customers improve efficiency and support upselling opportunities.
- Maintain truck inventory and perform other duties as assigned.
How You Will Do It
- Own each service call from first response through completion by diagnosing the issue, confirming the solution with the customer, and closing the work accurately.
- Work safely and with integrity at all times by following safety guidelines, required procedures, and applicable National, State, and Local codes.
- Stay close to the work by using blueprints, manuals, bulletins, and field observations to troubleshoot panel repair and reprogramming, device replacement and repair, low-voltage circuit issues, and system testing.
- Use technical resources efficiently by organizing information, material, and support so assigned tasks are completed accurately and on time.
- Communicate clearly and candidly with customers, district staff, and internal partners to keep work moving and avoid surprises.
- Improve every day by documenting activity and productivity promptly, learning from recurring issues, and applying practical problem-solving in the field.
- Win as one team by collaborating with service center personnel and teammates, sharing knowledge, and supporting a dependable customer experience.
- Respond to after-hours and on-call needs when customer schedules require it, and bring a service mindset that supports both immediate repairs and longer-term facility performance.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with fire alarm, access control, security intrusion, sound, and communications systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, and operational product manuals.
- Good working knowledge of computers.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a high level of customer service.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including carrying and moving equipment and tools up to 50-70 lbs.
- Ability to work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, and high lift equipment up to 40 feet, and working within ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, to meet customer requirements.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Ability to maintain truck inventory to ensure timely response to customer needs.
- Ability to adhere to, implement, and follow safety guidelines and procedures at all times.
- Strong organizational skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
