Full job description
Web Designer
The ASU Outreach Hub is a nonprofit organization that supports the outreach and transactional needs of the ASU public enterprise through marketing and engagement solutions that advance the university and strengthen its brand. It specializes in paid media outreach, data-driven insights and outreach to alumni, donors and targeted corporations.
The ASU Outreach Hub seeks a Web Designer to create engaging, accessible and visually compelling website experiences that support a wide range of audience activation and engagement, stewardship and storytelling.
Reporting to the Creative Director, this role is responsible for the hands-on design and production of websites, landing pages and other digital experiences. The Web Designer translates approved creative direction, business requirements, audience insights and web standards into responsive layouts, page designs, interface components and production-ready specifications.
The Web Designer partners closely with the Creative Director, web developer, content strategists, project managers and other stakeholders throughout the design and implementation process. This role is primarily focused on design craft, usability, accessibility and implementation quality rather than portfolio-level web strategy, channel performance ownership, technology governance or people management.
What you’ll do
Web and Interface Design
- Create wireframes, page layouts, prototypes and high-fidelity designs for websites, landing pages, applications and digital outreach campaigns.
- Design responsive web experiences optimized for desktop, tablet and mobile devices.
- Translate approved creative direction, business requirements, content and audience needs into clear, intuitive and visually compelling web experiences.
- Apply strong visual design principles including layout, typography, hierarchy, imagery and digital storytelling.
- Create and apply reusable interface components and patterns in alignment with established brand and web standards.
- Produce clear, production-ready design specifications and assets for implementation by web developers.
- Design specialized digital interfaces, including experiences that may incorporate AI-powered content or tools.
Usability and Content Organization
- Apply user experience and usability best practices to page-level design decisions and interaction patterns.
- Develop page-level content hierarchies, user flows and navigation recommendations within approved project requirements.
- Use available audience research, analytics insights, stakeholder input and established personas or journeys to inform design decisions.
- Participate in usability reviews or testing as needed and incorporate findings into design refinements.
Collaboration and Production
- Partner with the Creative Director throughout the creative process to ensure web design aligns with campaign strategy, brand standards and creative direction.
- Collaborate with the web developer to ensure design feasibility, quality and fidelity throughout implementation.
- Collaborate with content strategists to ensure content and design work seamlessly together.
- Participate in project discovery, creative brief development, design reviews and stakeholder presentations.
- Communicate the rationale behind design decisions and respond constructively to feedback from team members and client partners.
- Manage multiple design assignments and deliver high-quality work within established project timelines and priorities.
- Maintain organized, accurate and production-ready design files, components and assets.
Accessibility and Web Design Standards
- Design digital solutions that meet WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design best practices.
- Apply established usability, responsive design, SEO, performance and conversion considerations to design execution.
- Support the evolution of web design patterns, component libraries and design standards in partnership with the Creative Director and web developer.
What you'll need
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
- Strong portfolio that demonstrates high-quality website and digital interface design experience.
