Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Care Assistant is a full-time student in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program, preferably within the second year. Under the supervision of respiratory therapists, the assistant performs basic tasks learned in class and practices them in the school laboratory. These tasks have also been practiced with demonstrated competency during clinical rotations at area hospitals. The assistant follows TMCA Departmental Policies and Procedures and performs tasks only after successfully passing theoretical tests and practical competencies administered by TMCA Respiratory Therapy Department leadership. As the assistant progresses in knowledge and experience and demonstrates competency in additional skills and proficiencies, the job scope will increase accordingly.

Position Requirements:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required
  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Enrollment in a Respiratory Therapy program is required.
  • 1 year completed of a Respiratory Therapy program is preferred.
  • 6 months of previous experience preferred
  • Knowledge of respiratory principles and procedures, hospital supplies, and hospital routines is preferred.
