Position Overview:

The Front Line Manager I - Machining is responsible for supervising union skilled trades across machining and assembly operations within the Barberton facility. This role ensures safe, high-quality, and efficient execution of daily machining work, maintains strong communication across shifts, and supports production activities to meet schedule, technical, and quality requirements.

The FLM I provides direct, hands-on leadership during 3rd Shift operations, helping prepare machining work for downstream teams and ensuring continuity across multiple departments. The role also supports issue resolution, partners with technical support groups, and contributes to improvements in workflow, safety, and machining processes. Flexibility across shifts and work areas is essential, and scheduled overtime may be required to support operational needs.

This position is primarily assigned to 3rd Shift; however, flexibility to transition between shifts, departments, and work areas is essential to maintain seamless operations. Scheduled overtime may be required based on operational demand.

Your Day to Day as a Front-Line Manager I

Operational Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise, mentor, and support union hourly skilled trades in machining and assembly operations.
  • Provide clear direction to ensure alignment with safety rules, quality expectations, and machining workflow requirements.
  • Maintain strong communication with adjacent shifts to support consistent execution and production continuity.

Production Planning & Execution
  • Coordinate machining work across multiple buildings, work centers, and equipment types to meet production goals.
  • Work closely with technical support groups to interpret machining work scopes, resolve issues, and ensure teams understand all required specifications and tolerances.
  • Assist in resolving machining and assembly challenges using practical experience and knowledge of skilled trade practices.


Safety, Quality & Reporting
  • Report regularly on safety performance, quality concerns, and production progress.
  • Address safety or quality issues that arise during machining and work with technical support and quality teams to investigate, resolve, and formalize corrective actions.
  • Reinforce adherence to standard operating procedures and machining best practices.


Data Management & Systems Use
  • Input and manage data related to labor hours, machining schedules, workflow tracking, and maintenance work orders.
  • Use established systems and processes to make sound, routine decisions within defined guidelines.

Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Identify opportunities to enhance machining workflow efficiency, resource utilization, safety, and cost control.
  • Escalate and help resolve technical issues that affect machining performance or production readiness.
  • Support the adoption of new technologies, updated machining standards, and process improvements.

Flexibility & Availability
  • Flex between shifts and work areas based on project needs, staffing requirements, or emergent operations.
  • Work scheduled overtime as required to maintain production continuity and meet customer commitments.


Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory role, preferably within a unionized machining, assembly, or heavy-manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in machining operations, precision component fabrication, and assembly practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and engage skilled trades in a complex production setting.
  • Ability to work independently within established machining practices and use sound judgment to resolve routine operational or technical issues.
  • Motivated to support machining teams, identify issues proactively, and drive timely resolution.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to guide a diverse workforce and communicate machining and assembly requirements clearly.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with G&M Codes, MS Office, SharePoint, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing, and overhead cranes a plus.
Bachelor's degree is a plus.

Pay: $66,000 - $101,000

The base salary range for this position in Ohio (US-OH) at the start of employment is expected to be between $66,000 and $101,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
