Full job description

POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides professional level skills required in the clinical practice of mental health counseling and crisis intervention, affording direct services to individuals housed in the adult detention center. Screens and identifies inmates who are mentally ill, have substance use issues, and/or may be at risk for suicide and make the appropriate referral for further assessment. Works as a therapeutic agent as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide evaluation, treatment planning and service coordination for those in adult detention. Counsels and assists patients with personal and environmental difficulties which predispose illness or hinder the patient from receiving maximum benefits from medical care. Actively supports the policies and procedures of the University Health.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is required. One year post master's degree experience in a health care setting is preferred.

LICENSURE

Current state licensure from the Texas State Board of Social Workers Examiners is required. Current CPR certification as a BLS HealthCare Provider is also required. Certification as a Correctional Health Care Professional is preferred when eligible.
