About Darkroom

Darkroom is the leading next-generation growth marketing firm engineering the brands of tomorrow. Founded in 2017, we set out to redefine what a modern agency could be, by replacing the inertia of legacy advertising behemoths with a model built for speed, intelligence, and measurable impact.

At our core, Darkroom is a human services company powered by Shadow, a universal AI commerce layer that integrates executive-level strategy with proprietary agentic technology. This fusion enables our teams to deliver outsized returns by enhancing creative output, operational efficiency, and revenue generation across every stage of the customer journey.

Our track record speaks for itself: billions in attributable revenue driven across e-commerce marketplaces, media networks, DTC ecosystems, and social commerce platforms. Every engagement feeds into our proprietary data infrastructure, enabling a continuous feedback loop that accelerates growth, improves margins, and compounds results across our client portfolio.

What began as a boutique design studio has evolved into one of the fastest-growing private companies in America and among the most effective performance media agencies of the 2020s. Our founders were recognized by Forbes 30 Under 30 for advancing the intersection of technology, marketing, and advertising, cementing Darkroom's role as a defining player in the future of media innovation.

About the role

Darkroom is hiring a Measurement Strategist for a single, dedicated engagement: the launch of a category-defining consumer AI product, at a spend altitude most people in this industry never get near.

Your job is to be the person on our side who evaluates data, learns from it, and decides what's next. You will pressure-test the structure, the assumptions, the priors, and the hypotheses, and tell us plainly where the model is load-bearing and where it is guessing. When the answer is good, you carry it forward with conviction. When it isn't, you say so before we spend against it.

The second half of the job is forward-looking. You own the question of what we test next. You own the next learning decision: what is the hypothesis, how do we design a test that can actually answer it, what will we know at the end that we don't know now, and how does that get the client closer to their goal. A test that cannot change a decision is not a test we run.

You also own the data supply chain. This is a pre-launch business, which means there is no baseline, no clean historical data, and no settled definition of a conversion. You will decide what we measure, where each number comes from, which source wins when two disagree, and what has to be instrumented before launch rather than after. That someone is you, working alongside client-side data and engineering.

And you will forecast. Media plans, ramp curves, CPA and CAC trajectories, saturation points, and scenario ranges, maintained as a living model rather than a deck slide. These forecasts sit underneath our commercial commitments, so they need to be defensible line by line.

You will report to the Director of Growth on this account.

This is a demanding seat on the most visible account in the agency. We are saying that plainly because we would rather you know now.

What you’ll do

  • Own the MMM partner relationship. Serve as Darkroom's technical counterpart to the marketing mix and incrementality partner. Interrogate model structure, input quality, channel definitions, and stated confidence. Translate their output into something the account team and the client can act on, including the caveats.

  • Design the testing roadmap. Decide what gets tested, in what sequence, against what hypothesis. Specify design, duration, power, geographies or holdout structure, and the read criteria, before spend goes live. Nothing launches without a pre-registered definition of what a win looks like.

  • Read tests and set the next move. Analyze results, separate signal from noise, and convert every read into a clear recommendation and a next hypothesis. Close the loop so the roadmap compounds instead of resetting.

  • Own the measurement architecture. Define the metrics, their definitions, and their sources of truth. Determine what data we need, where it should come from, and what is missing. Drive the instrumentation and telemetry requirements with the client's data and engineering teams.

  • Forecast. Build and maintain the forecasting model behind media plans and ramp scenarios: spend-to-outcome curves, efficiency by phase, saturation and diminishing-return thresholds, and scenario ranges. Keep it current and keep it honest.

  • Hold the line on evidence. This engagement carries performance commitments. You own the numbers underneath them, which means you are the person who says early when a target is drifting, rather than late when it has moved.

  • Communicate to non-specialists. Present measurement strategy and results to the account lead, senior agency leadership, and a sophisticated client. No jargon shields. If they cannot act on it, it isn't finished.

  • Bring it back to the platform. Feed methods, definitions, and reusable measurement logic into Shadow so the work outlives the engagement.

You should apply if this sounds like you

  • 5+ years in marketing measurement, analytics, or data strategy, in an agency, a measurement vendor, or a high-growth in-house performance team.

  • You have been the client-side or agency-side counterpart to an MMM or incrementality vendor, and you have successfully challenged one. Tell us about a time you pushed back on a model output and were right.

  • You have designed and read real incrementality tests: geo lift, matched market, holdout, conversion lift, PSA. You know why a test failed to read and what you would change.

  • You are fluent in the vocabulary of causal measurement even if you are not building the models. Terms like power, confidence interval, baseline, saturation, and diminishing return are working concepts for you, not buzzwords.

  • You are strong in SQL and spreadsheets, and comfortable in a BI environment. Python or R is a plus, not a requirement.

  • You have built a forecast someone made a real financial decision on, and you can walk through where it was right, where it was wrong, and why.

  • You have opinions about data quality and where numbers should come from, and you have driven tracking or instrumentation requirements with an engineering team.

  • You can hold your ground with people more senior and more credentialed than you. This role has no value if you defer.

  • You write and speak clearly for an executive audience. Short, direct, no hedging for cover.

  • You are comfortable operating without a baseline. Pre-launch means ambiguity, and you find that interesting rather than paralyzing.

Hard disqualifiers

  • Pure reporting or dashboard-building background with no test design experience. This is not a BI role.

  • Never worked with a measurement or MMM vendor as a counterpart. Consuming vendor output is not the same as challenging it.

  • Cannot articulate the difference between correlation and incrementality, or between last-click attribution and a causal read.

  • Needs a mature data warehouse, a clean historical baseline, or an existing measurement stack to do good work. None of that exists here yet.

  • Uncomfortable delivering bad news to a client or to agency leadership..

What It's Like to Work at Darkroom

Darkroom is not a typical agency. We are looking for A players who want to build something great. We move fast, think deeply, and expect every team member to bring insight and rigor to everything they touch. We hold a high bar for performance, creativity, and ownership, but we also support each other relentlessly. No egos, no red tape, just world-class talent building something remarkable.

We believe in autonomy with accountability, truth over comfort, and outcomes over optics.

  • Unlimited PTO + US holidays: Rebooting is part of the work. Take the time you need to stay sharp.

  • Remote-First Culture: Many roles are fully remote. Employees based in or near our New York or Lisbon HQs are expected to work hybrid with weekly in-office time. Hub locations include Brazil and Spain.

  • Health & Wellness: Company-sponsored medical, dental, and vision coverage.

  • Finances, growth, and retirement: Darkroom offers a robust 401(k) program with company match and profit-sharing opportunities to help you save and grow as the company grows.

  • Parental Leave: Flexible parental leave to support new parents during this important transition.

  • Growth: Our interdisciplinary model gives every Darkroomer exposure far beyond their core role. Grow your skills, expand your influence, and stay at the forefront of the industry.
