Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our dynamic rehabilitation team at Lakeland Health & Fitness in Modesto, California. In this full-time role, you will be instrumental in delivering tailored physical therapy treatments and interventions under the supervision of licensed Physical Therapists. You will work collaboratively to enhance patient recovery and mobility, making a significant impact on their quality of life.

Work Environment
This onsite position is based at our hospital facility, where you will enjoy regular working hours from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM. The hospital environment is fast-paced yet supportive, and you will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team that includes physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and rehabilitation aides. Your workspace will be designed for optimal patient interaction and therapeutic engagement, ensuring that both you and the patients feel safe and comfortable.
Key Responsibilities
As a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA), your primary responsibilities will include:
- Implementing individualized physical therapy treatment plans that have been developed by the supervising Physical Therapist, ensuring adherence to guidelines and best practices.
- Administering a variety of therapeutic interventions, such as therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, gait training, and modalities for pain management.
- Monitoring patient progress by accurately documenting functional improvements and communicating any changes or concerns with the supervising therapist.
- Educating patients and their families on effective therapeutic exercises, safety precautions, and at-home care strategies to enhance recovery.
- Maintaining comprehensive patient records in accordance with state regulations and facility protocols to ensure high standards of practice.
- Creating a nurturing and safe environment during therapy sessions, encouraging patient participation and motivation.
- Working collaboratively with the healthcare team to assess patient needs and develop strategies to maximize rehabilitation outcomes.
Patient Population / Client Focus
Your role will primarily focus on adult and geriatric patients, many of whom may be recovering from surgical procedures, injuries, or chronic conditions. This population requires a sensitive approach tailored to their specific rehabilitation needs. You will have the opportunity to develop meaningful patient relationships and provide support that empowers them throughout their recovery journey.
Qualifications
A successful candidate for the PTA position must meet the following qualifications:
- Completion of an Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
- Possession of an active PTA license in the state of California.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment and communicate proficiently with patients from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Experience
While we welcome applications from new graduates, we prefer candidates who possess:
- At least 1 year of experience working with adult or geriatric patients in a clinical setting.
- Background in outpatient, skilled nursing, or inpatient rehabilitation environments.
- A track record of effectively motivating patients toward achieving their rehabilitation goals.
