NSC Staffing is seeking an experienced Pipefitter with Silver Brazing experience for an immediate opportunity supporting shipyard operations in [Enter Location]. This position is ideal for a skilled tradesperson with extensive shipboard pipefitting experience who can work independently, read blueprints, and ensure top-quality installations that meet safety and technical standards.
Position Overview:
As a Pipefitter, you will perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of shipboard piping systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of various pipe materials, fittings, and joining techniques, including silver brazing, tack welding, and soldering. This role requires precision, teamwork, and adherence to shipyard safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform layout, fabrication, installation, testing, and repair of piping systems aboard vessels and in shop environments.
- Prepare joints for welding or brazing according to system specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches; create fabrication sketches for others as needed.
- Accurately lay out offset and rolling offset bends.
- Assemble and install flanges, fittings, hangars, and supports.
- Operate pipe bending and threading machines, torches, and other trade tools safely.
- Conduct system testing using air and water methods to verify integrity and performance.
- Fabricate mock-ups and jigs for off-site prefabrication within tolerance requirements.
- Work with various materials including copper, CuNi, NiCu, Cres, and steel.
- Tack weld, silver braze, soft solder, and burn as required for assigned tasks.
- Supervise and train junior mechanics, maintaining adherence to industry codes and safety standards.
- Follow all shipyard safety practices and wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, respirator as needed).
- Maintain dependable attendance and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of shipboard pipefitting experience; technical training preferred.
- Preferred:
- Silver Brazing experience
- DBIDS eligible
- Local candidates (non-local applicants will be considered based on qualifications)
- Proficient in reading blueprints and fabricating from sketches.
- Skilled with tools such as pipe benders, threaders, saws, grinders, and drill presses.
- Strong troubleshooting and leadership capabilities.
- Must have all required safety training, including Firewatch certification.
- Ability to enter confined spaces and perform work in physically demanding environments.
- Steady, reliable, and safety-conscious work ethic.
Tool Requirements:
Candidates must possess a basic pipefitting tool set, including but not limited to:
- Assorted screwdrivers and pliers
- Tip cleaners and markers
- Tubing cutters, channel locks, combination wrenches
- Pipe wrenches (14" and 18"), crescent wrenches (mini and standard)
- Socket set up to 1¼"
- Hammer, center punch, file, pry bar, and striker
