They will help shape technology roadmaps, develop innovative solutions, and guide technical teams through product and technology development.

Job Description

The Advanced Staff Engineer – Power Electronics will lead the design, analysis, development, and technical maturation of high-performance power-electronics systems. This includes power generation, power conversion, power-system analysis and controls, and energy-storage system integration.

Working across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and other GE Aerospace organizations, this individual will provide technical direction, resolve complex program challenges, lead technical reviews, and ensure project requirements are met. The role requires strong expertise in power-conversion architectures, high-voltage/high-power hardware, controls, simulation, testing, and aerospace or military electrical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams supporting power-electronics technology and product-development programs.
• Lead the design and development of power-conversion systems, including power generation, power conversion, power-system controls, and energy-storage integration.
• Develop detailed technical analyses and present findings, design decisions, risks, and recommendations during technical reviews.
• Serve as the customer-facing technical lead or Principal Investigator for assigned technology and development programs.
• Coordinate technology-development efforts with other GE Aerospace teams and ensure work aligns with long-term product and technology roadmaps.
• Develop and execute plans to meet technical program requirements, schedules, quality objectives, and customer commitments.
• Partner with suppliers, manufacturing, systems engineering, and other technical disciplines to deliver robust and producible solutions.
• Identify technical risks and issues, develop corrective-action plans, and drive resolution through closure.
• Support customer proposals by reviewing requirements, assessing technical feasibility, and identifying capability gaps.
• Maintain awareness of power-electronics technology trends, competitive products, and market differentiators.
• Mentor and coach engineers, including developing technical talent for Principal Investigator and engineering-lead roles.
• Support leadership with technical reviews of customer requirements and product capabilities.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in power electronics engineering.
• Demonstrated experience designing, analyzing, developing, or supporting power-conversion hardware and systems.
• Experience leading technical workstreams, engineering projects, or cross-functional technical teams.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to engineering teams, leadership, suppliers, and customers.
• Must qualify as a U.S. person under applicable export-control regulations, including U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and other protected individuals. Proof of status will be required before employment.

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience with high-voltage, high-power converters or inverters, including systems of at least 10 kW and operating voltages above 270 V.
• Strong knowledge of DC-DC, DC-AC, and AC-DC power-conversion topologies and associated control methods.
• Experience with single-phase and three-phase electrical machines, including induction and synchronous machines in both motoring and generating modes.
• Knowledge of electromagnetic interference (EMI), including common-mode and differential-mode noise, and compliance with DO-160G and MIL-STD-461 requirements.
• Experience with transformer design, semiconductor switches, gate-driver design, PWM techniques, and power-stage layout.
• Experience with semiconductor loss modeling and validation testing, including double-pulse and pump-back testing.
• Familiarity with DSP-, microcontroller-, and FPGA-based control systems.
• Experience with circuit design and layout tools, such as Altium.
• Experience using simulation tools such as PLECS, LTspice, Simplorer, ANSYS/Ansoft, FEMM, MATLAB, or Simulink.
• Strong electrical circuit design, PCB layout, and hands-on laboratory testing experience.
• Experience supporting New Technology Introduction (NTI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) programs in power conversion.
• Strong influence, facilitation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• U.S. citizenship is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior-level power-electronics engineer who can lead both the technical solution and the people executing it. They have deep experience with high-voltage and high-power conversion hardware, understand power-system controls and electrical-machine interfaces, and can move confidently between simulation, design review, lab validation, manufacturing support, and customer discussions.

They are comfortable owning difficult technical problems, guiding engineering teams through trade studies and design decisions, and translating customer needs into practical, reliable product solutions. This person is a collaborative technical leader who can influence across organizational boundaries, mentor other engineers, and help shape the future power-electronics technology roadmap.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
