Full job description

A Marine Mechanic is needed for a well-established Boatyard. This mechanic will work with clients boat repairs and part replacement. This person reports to the Manager and will work with a team of up to 20.


Marine Mechanic Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and repair marine propulsion systems (diesel, gas, outboards, stern drives)
  • Install, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC electrical, plumbing, and fuel systems
  • Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, impellers, zincs, cooling systems)
  • Service steering systems, transmissions, shaft seals, and drive systems
  • Conduct sea trials and functional testing of repairs
  • Assist with haul-outs, bottom jobs, shaft alignments, and propeller installations
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed and parts used

Marine Mechanic Requirements:

  • Experience in full-service marine diesel engine testing, repair, and maintenance
  • Experience up to 40 tons
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in marine mechanical repair and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of inboard and outboard engine systems.
  • Familiarity with marine electrical, plumbing, and fuel systems.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and follow detailed instructions.
  • ABYC, NMEA, or engine manufacturer certifications (e.g., Yanmar, Mercury, Volvo Penta).
  • Experience operating forklifts, travel lifts, or hydraulic trailers.
  • Welding or fabrication skills a plus.

Marine Mechanic Compensation:

  • Hourly $35-45 per hour
  • M-F or T-Sat Day shift starting at 7 am
