Job Responsibilities 

Responsible for providing maintenance engineering support to improve the reliability, availability, safety, and performance of plant equipment, systems, and maintenance programs. This role works closely with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering to troubleshoot equipment issues, strengthen preventive and predictive maintenance practices, support mechanical integrity requirements, and execute maintenance-related projects that reduce downtime and improve operational performance. 

  • Provide day-to-day maintenance engineering support for plant equipment, utilities, and mechanical systems to support safe, reliable operations. 

  • Troubleshoot recurring equipment issues and partner with Maintenance and Production to identify practical, sustainable solutions. 

  • Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for significant or repetitive equipment failures and support corrective actions to prevent recurrence. 

  • Develop, monitor, and improve preventive maintenance (PM) and predictive maintenance (PdM) practices to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. 

  • Support fixed equipment mechanical integrity activities, including inspections, repairs, documentation, and recommendations for continued safe operation. 

  • Conduct equipment and plant inspections, audits, and reliability assessments, including vibration analysis, thermal inspections, and related condition-monitoring activities. 

  • Recommend critical spare parts and support inventory strategies that improve equipment reliability while balancing cost and availability. 

  • Research equipment specifications, operating requirements, and vendor recommendations to support maintenance planning, repairs, and spare parts decisions. 

  • Support maintenance capital projects, typically under $300,000, including scope development, planning, execution, commissioning, and closeout. 

  • Provide technical support for equipment and system upgrades, new equipment installations, and start-up activities. 

  • Develop PM and PdM requirements for newly installed or modified equipment. 

  • Provide technical support for mills, pumps, pump seals, piping, tanks, relief devices, and other mechanical systems. 

  • Provide technical training, coaching, and guidance to maintenance team members to strengthen troubleshooting, repair quality, and reliability practices. 

  • Coordinate with other facilities within the division to share maintenance engineering practices, align equipment strategies, and support consistent reliability standards. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

 

Candidate Qualifications/ Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial maintenance, reliability, or plant engineering experience; or an Associate degree in Engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industrial maintenance or reliability experience. 

  • Chemical manufacturing, heavy industrial, or process manufacturing experience preferred. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to Zero Harm practices, including adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices to protect employees, contractors, visitors, the community, and the environment. 

  • Demonstrated experience supporting maintenance engineering, equipment reliability, troubleshooting, and repair activities in an industrial environment. 

  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with working knowledge of rotating equipment, fixed equipment, pumps, seals, piping, tanks, relief devices, and related plant systems. 

  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), condition monitoring, and reliability improvement practices. 

  • Experience supporting Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and implementing corrective actions to address recurring equipment issues. 

  • Familiarity with API codes, particularly API 510, API 570, and API 650, preferred. 

  • Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings, equipment specifications, 2D drawings, and 3D models. 

  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), mechanical integrity systems, and related reliability or inspection programs; experience with PCMS and ERP systems such as Navision preferred. 

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint. 

  • Ability to support maintenance capital projects, equipment upgrades, installation/start-up activities, and spare parts planning. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, vendors, and management regarding technical issues, risks, recommendations, and project status. 

  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English. 

  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary to support the position’s essential duties. 

  • CMRP certification preferred.
