Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate various types of machine tools such as lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, etc., selecting proper feeds and speeds
- Work from drawings, sketches and verbal instructions to make parts.
- Work to close tolerances
- Makes fixtures for machines
- Use precision measuring instruments to check accuracy of work
- Perform hand operations such as filing, fitting, tapping, etc.
- Perform preventative maintenance lubrication
- Keep work area and equipment clean
- Ensuring the promotion of customer focus throughout the organization.
- And other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma, or equivalent
- Completed Machinist Apprenticeship program or 3-5 years experience in a machine shop
- Knowledge of precision measuring devices
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and sketches
- A proven mechanical aptitude
- Advanced shop mathematics skills
- Broad knowledge of machine shop practices
- Ability to trouble-shoot and problem solve
- Strong work ethic and follow through
- Must consistently use safety devices when operating machines
- Attention to detail a must
