Position Overview

Shift Gears Physical Therapy Services is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Orthopedic Physical Therapist Assistant to join our dynamic healthcare team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to work closely with patients in a hospital setting, providing rehabilitative support under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist. As part of our orthopedic unit, you will play a crucial role in helping patients regain strength, mobility, and functionality following injury or surgery.

Work Environment

The position is based onsite at our North Tonawanda location, where you will engage with patients in a state-of-the-art hospital facility. Our team operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 9 AM to 5 PM, allowing for a balanced work-life integration. The environment emphasizes teamwork, with regular interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment strategies. You will have access to a variety of rehabilitation equipment and resources to aid in your therapeutic interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implementation of customized treatment plans as directed by the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Provide hands-on therapy, which includes guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, applying manual techniques, and utilizing modalities such as ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
  • Monitor and document patient progress accurately in medical records to track improvements and make necessary adjustments to treatment regimens.
  • Educate patients on proper exercise techniques and therapeutic activities to promote their active engagement in the recovery process.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, and occupational therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  • Maintain professional standards and ethical practices while delivering compassionate care to all patients.

Patient Population / Client Focus

You will primarily work with patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal disorders. This includes a diverse range of individuals, from athletes looking to return to play to seniors aiming to regain mobility and independence. Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
  • A valid and active state license as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an orthopedic setting, demonstrating expertise in rehabilitation practices.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology, and relevant medical terminology.
