As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:
Develop subject-matter expertise in mechanical subsystems used within plasma and waterjet cutting systems, CNC equipment, and torch height control systems
Maintain and support released products by implementing mechanical design changes through sustaining engineering projects. Evaluate alternate materials and components to address obsolescence, availability, cost, and manufacturability while partnering with suppliers and driving the change-management process
Lead cost-reduction and product-improvement initiatives through design updates, engineering analysis, prototype development, verification and validation testing, and contributions to business cases
Analyze drawings, specifications, tolerance studies, test data, and technical documentation to confirm designs meet functional, performance, reliability, safety, and regulatory requirements
Create and revise 3D models, assemblies, detailed drawings, bills of material, and engineering change documentation
Collaborate with procurement, manufacturing, quality, technicians, suppliers, and engineers across business teams to solve design and production challenges
Plan and execute hands-on laboratory and prototype testing, troubleshoot mechanical issues, document results, and maintain project timelines through clear written and verbal communication
Who you are and the experience you bring:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, with 0–5 years of mechanical design experience
Foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, machine elements, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, or structural analysis, with a strong desire to continue learning
Experience using 3D CAD and engineering drawing tools to create parts, assemblies, and production-ready documentation
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, specifications, bills of material, and assembly documentation
Methodical design, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis capabilities, including the ability to balance product performance, manufacturability, cost, reliability, and safety
Ability to apply statistical methods, FMEA, DfMA principles, structured problem-solving techniques, and tolerance analysis
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for working effectively with procurement, manufacturing, quality, marketing, and engineering teams
Self-motivated, eager to learn, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Preferred experience that differentiates you:
Experience with highly technical industrial products
Designing fabricated, machined, cast, molded, or sheet-metal components and assemblies
Hands-on prototype building, test-fixture development, mechanical testing, and design verification and validation
Working knowledge of tolerance stack-ups, GD&T, material selection, and DfMA principles
Familiarity with finite element analysis, thermal analysis, computational fluid dynamics, or other engineering simulation tools
Knowledge of reliability practices, product safety requirements, and regulatory standards applicable to industrial equipment
Project management experience and/or certification
