Field Service Technician – Industrial Equipment & Controls

Dayton, OH | Full-Time | $80,000–$90,000

Are you an experienced Field Service Technician who enjoys solving complex equipment problems and working directly with customers?

We are seeking a Field Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and support custom industrial equipment at customer facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong electrical and mechanical background who enjoys diagnosing problems, working independently, and seeing different equipment and applications.

This is not a routine parts-replacement position. We are looking for a technician who can read schematics, troubleshoot industrial controls, identify the root cause of equipment problems, and get machinery back into operation.

What You'll Do

  • Travel to customer facilities to troubleshoot, repair, and service industrial equipment
  • Diagnose electrical, controls, and mechanical problems
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled machinery and industrial automation systems
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, relays, switches, and other industrial components
  • Perform equipment startup, installation, testing, and commissioning
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and determine appropriate repairs
  • Make electrical and mechanical adjustments or repairs in the field
  • Work with engineering and internal technical teams to resolve complex equipment issues
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment problems, repairs, and recommendations
  • Document service work and maintain accurate service records
  • Follow proper electrical and industrial safety procedures while working at customer locations

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Field Service Technician, Controls Technician, Industrial Maintenance Technician, Automation Technician, Electrical Technician, or similar
  • Strong industrial electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment
  • Ability to read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics
  • Understanding of industrial electrical and control systems
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting ability
  • Experience using electrical testing equipment such as multimeters
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment independently in the field
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Comfortable traveling to customer facilities as required
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Experience

  • Allen-Bradley PLC experience
  • Siemens or Mitsubishi PLC experience
  • Industrial automation or custom machinery
  • VFDs, motors, sensors, and industrial controls
  • Equipment installation and commissioning
  • 480V industrial electrical systems
  • Experience working directly with engineering or controls teams

What Makes Someone Successful Here

The strongest person for this position isn't necessarily someone who knows every piece of equipment on day one.

We're looking for someone who understands how industrial equipment works and how to troubleshoot it systematically.

You should be comfortable looking at a machine you've never seen before, reviewing the prints, talking with the customer, checking the electrical and mechanical systems, and working through the problem until you identify the cause.

Compensation & Benefits

  • $80,000–$90,000, based on experience
  • Full-time position
  • Competitive benefits package
  • Stable, growing industrial organization
  • Opportunity to work with a variety of custom equipment and technologies
  • Long-term career opportunity with an experienced engineering and manufacturing team
