Operational Excellence Manager, Aerospace Machining

Location: Bay Shore, NY (On-site)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $150,000 to $170,000 per year

Lead the Lean transformation of a precision aerospace machining operation, turning shop-floor improvements into measurable gains in throughput, lead time, and cost.

Must-Haves

  • 7+ years of progressive manufacturing experience, including 3+ years leading Lean, Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence
  • Proven results in waste reduction, throughput, setup reduction, productivity, quality, inventory, or cost savings
  • Hands-on Lean expertise: value-stream mapping, kaizen, A3/PDCA, 5S/6S, standard work, visual management, SMED, root cause analysis, and flow and pull systems
  • Machining, aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations, or related field (or equivalent accomplishments)
  • Ability to tie improvements to validated financial results
  • Ability to lead change and influence without direct authority
  • Willingness to work on-site with substantial time on the manufacturing floor

What You'll Do

  • Lead kaizen events and improvement projects from planning through sustained results
  • Identify waste and bottlenecks through value-stream mapping, process mapping, and data analysis
  • Improve flow across machining, inspection, tooling, outside processing, and planning
  • Reduce lead times, setup times, WIP, scrap, rework, and overtime
  • Increase throughput, labor productivity, and machine utilization
  • Implement tiered daily management, visual boards, leader standard work, and sustainment audits
  • Build a site Lean roadmap aligned with production priorities and NPI
  • Partner with Finance to validate savings, capacity gains, and inventory reductions
  • Coach supervisors, engineers, and operators and develop Lean champions
  • Maintain aerospace quality, export-control, and configuration-control requirements

Nice-to-Haves

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or comparable certification
  • Aerospace manufacturing and AS9100 experience
  • Experience with complex CNC machining, high-mix/low-volume production, and high-value forgings
  • Site-level Lean transformation experience
  • Power BI, Epicor, or comparable ERP and analytics tools

Compensation and Benefits

  • $150,000 to $170,000 per year
