POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT
The Staff Accountant I is responsible for performing general ledger reconciliations for Moss, as well as preparing and entering Energy Division journal entries. This role collaborates across teams to ensure financial integrity and support financial reporting efforts in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform general ledger account reconciliations for designated accounts and related divisions
- Collaborate with functional leads across the division to ensure the completeness and accuracy of transactions
- Reconcile vendor statements and communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies
- Manage the preparation of journal entries
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities in accordance with the company’s financial close calendar
- Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy, identify trends, and provide variance insights
- Process invoices accurately and timely
- Draft and maintain technical accounting memos to document financial treatments, account reconciliations, and compliance with company policies
- Develop, document, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to streamline accounting workflows and ensure departmental consistency
- Review credit card transactions and ensure proper coding consistent with company policy
- Manage and reconcile deposits, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accounts receivable, accruals, and reserves to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance
- Respond to internal inquiries, conduct accounting research, participate in special projects, and provide ad hoc financial analysis
- Perform other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, and/or 3+ years of experience in an accounting or administrative support setting (construction industry experience preferred)
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, general ledger, and month-end close
- Ability to communicate complex reconciliation findings clearly to functional leads and senior staff
- Ability to build strong working relationships with functional leads to ensure transaction completeness
- Ability to manage competing priorities during the month-end close in a high-volume environment
- Analytical and accurate in performing short reviews of workpapers and reconciliations
- Demonstrates an execution mindset; provides peer-level guidance while incorporating senior feedback
- Ability to work collaboratively to resolve transactional discrepancies across different departments
- Construction industry experience is a plus, but not required
