Roles requiring state licensure only: License should not expire within 45 days following start date
Required Skills/Experience: Experience with chest tubes, tracheostomies, drains, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, rare epidurals, IV antibiotics, and heparin drips is required.
Preferred Skills/Experience: Previous charge RN experience is highly preferred; the manager is willing to accept travelers without this experience only if they are willing to be trained as charge and to work in that capacity as needed during the contract. Cardiac strip reading and interpretation is preferred but not required.
Special Requests: Travel pairs are generally allowed to work the same weekend. Time-off requests require manager approval. You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit & shift at the same facility). Example: if you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit & facility.
Unit Details: Patient population includes total joint patients (knees, hips, etc.), general medical-surgical patients, appendicitis, colectomies, small bowel cases, urology (TURP, cystoscopy), CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, diabetes, and patients with addictions in addition to other medical issues. RN patient ratios are 1:5-6 on days and 1:6-7 on nights. The charge nurse takes an assignment most shifts. Respiratory therapy and hospitalist support are available 24/7, along with a centralized telemetry monitoring technician. One person is available to assist with difficult IVs and central lines, but nurses are expected to make two attempts to start their own IVs before asking for assistance. Rapid response is not a designated separate team; it is attended by the in-house provider, respiratory staff, ICU and ED charge nurses, the unit charge nurse, staff nurses, and the nursing supervisor at a minimum.
Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation is every other weekend. No call. Holiday expectations: 2/4 as needed.
