Full job description
The role – what you’ll do
Barr is seeking a civil engineer to join our renewables group in Denver, Colorado. In this hybrid role, you will support the planning, design, and development of renewable energy projects, including solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other clean energy infrastructure. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to provide civil engineering design and analysis for site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, access roads, and erosion and sediment control from project conception through construction.

They enjoy working independently and collaboratively, applying their civil engineering expertise to help develop reliable and innovative renewable energy projects. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities, are essential. This role also requires the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts and project recommendations to clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
Your impact – key responsibilities
Renewable energy site design: Develop civil engineering designs for renewable energy facilities, including solar farms, wind energy developments, and battery energy storage projects. Design responsibilities may include grading, drainage, stormwater management, site access, and erosion and sediment control.
Technical analysis and engineering support: Perform engineering calculations, evaluate site constraints, analyze topographic and hydrologic data, and prepare technical reports to support project development, permitting, and construction activities.
Project delivery and collaboration: Work closely with a variety of engineers, planners, surveyors, and other project team members to successfully deliver renewable energy projects from feasibility through construction.
About the opportunity
Hybrid: a hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Denver, Colorado, office.
Travel expectation: up to 15 percent domestic fieldwork.
Work environment: ability to work in locations that feature the rough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment. Safety training will be provided before being given work assignments on these sites. Applicants may be asked to participate in a drug screening program at the request of specific clients. Candidates must be able to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
About you – required core competencies
Education: bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
Software: familiarity with AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience. Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and PDF editing software. Grading, culvert design, GIS and road design is a plus.
Interest in renewable energy: Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, energy transition, or sustainable infrastructure projects.
Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Compensation: anticipated range of $70,000–$85,000 annually. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. This position is classified exempt (salaried) under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
