- The Navigation Specialist is part of the Airspace Optimization team within Flight Operations and is responsible for overseeing navigation databases that support American Airlines' global fleet. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of critical navigation data while supporting the design, development, and implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) procedures used by pilots worldwide. Working closely with Airspace Specialists and other operational stakeholders, the position helps optimize airspace utilization, enhance operational efficiency, and support the safe execution of flight operations.

- Manage and maintain navigation databases used across American Airlines' fleet to ensure accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance
- Coordinate the validation, implementation, and distribution of navigation data updates supporting global flight operations
- Monitor changes to airspace, navigation aids, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure navigation databases remain current
- Analyze navigation data discrepancies and partner with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues impacting flight operations
- Support the design, development, and implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) procedures to enhance operational efficiency and safety
- Collaborate with Airspace Specialists, pilots, dispatchers, and regulatory agencies to evaluate and optimize airspace and navigation solutions
- Conduct technical reviews and testing of navigation procedures and database changes to ensure operational readiness and compliance with applicable standards
- Provide subject matter expertise on navigation databases, airspace design, and PBN concepts to support strategic and operational initiatives within Flight Operations

Minimum Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience
- 5 years of major airline employment in flight operations
Preferred Qualifications – Education & Prior Job Experience
- Experience using NDB Explorer and OneNav+ programs
- Experience with Flight Operations and airport operations
- Data analytic experience
Skills, Licenses, and Certifications
- Expertise in navigation databases, aircraft communication systems, and aviation technology platforms
- Advanced knowledge of Performance Based Navigation (PBN), including RNAV, RNP, and airspace optimization principles
- Strong understanding of FAA, ICAO, and global aviation regulatory requirements
- Strategic planning and execution of navigation and communication initiatives in complex operational environments
- Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to assess operational risks and develop effective solutions
- Cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence operational, technical, and regulatory partners
- Project and program management experience leading large-scale aviation technology and infrastructure initiatives
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
