Job Summary and Qualifications

The Inpatient Rehab Nurse Director ensures high quality, patient-centered care through oversight of the overall function and staffing of the unit(s)/department(s) in addition to forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring. The Director fosters a culture of accountability and collaboration and supports the development and implementation of strategies, policies, and procedures in support of facility objectives.

What you will do in this role:

  • Oversee care of all patients on unit, providing support and expertise to staff. Ensure quality of patient care and assists in patient care as necessary.
  • Ensure proper staff levels and adherence to all certifications, accreditations, and federal/state/local regulations.
  • Establish operations, processes, and documentation to support, facilitate, and maintain uniform performance of patient care.
  • Direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of the quality management plan for acute rehabilitation services, including outcome measurement. Facilitate interdepartmental performance-improvement/customer satisfaction activities.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and other clinical staff to develop quality rehabilitation programming to meet market needs. Encourage the integration of rehabilitation services into the continuum of care of the hospital and the community.
  • Ensure the supply of appropriate resources to support the programs, services, organizational structure and staffing levels necessary for quality rehabilitation services.
  • Represent and serve as an advocate for the department to hospital leadership and the community.
  • Oversee all staffing needs and personnel management; including interviewing, hiring and training new staff members, and disciplinary actions.
  • Create a high-quality, professional clinical environment to facilitate the necessary recruitment and retention of appropriate numbers of qualified staff. Assume responsibility for the timely assessment of competencies and performance of all staff. Facilitate ongoing educational opportunities for the staff, as well as patients, professional associates, physicians, and the community.
  • Foster a culture that inspires commitment to the vision/mission/values of the organization.
  • Demonstrate high ethical standards in customer service through all interactions with the patients, families, coworkers, staff, other hospital departments, physicians, community and all others.
  • Assume responsibility for the financial integrity of the unit. Perform regular review of MOR information and communicate results to Rehab management team.
  • Develop and strive for achievement of financial objectives, including the development and implementation of budgetary guidelines. Direct and manage the resources of Rehabilitation Services.
  • Participate in development and implementation of the rehabilitation strategic plan, maintaining current knowledge of the changing rehabilitation market.
  • Provide oversight of the IRF PAI functions, insurance approval processes and submission of all UDS information in a timely manner.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Tennessee or compact state required.
  • Certified Registered Rehab Nurse (CRRN) preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • 3-5 years of administrative experience in Inpatient Rehab strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in management of clinical staff required.
  • Proven ability to coordinate clinical services with ancillary services in a hospital setting required.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills required.
