Gastroenterology-Medical Director

The University at Buffalos Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences is seeking a GI Medical Director to lead and grow its division at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). This is a unique opportunity to join a nationally recognized academic institution with a strong commitment to clinical excellence, education, and research.
You will play a key leadership role while maintaining a dynamic clinical practice, working alongside a collaborative physician group and engaged trainees in a mission-driven environment serving diverse patient populations.
The Jacobs School is a long-standing leader in academic medicine, combining innovative education, impactful research, and high-quality patient care.
Its affiliated UBMD practice is the largest multi-specialty group in Western New York, supporting a robust clinical network and extensive patient access.
ECMC is a premier academic medical center and Level 1 Trauma Center, recognized for excellence across multiple specialties and its commitment to underserved communities.
Lead and expand GI services on campus in partnership with division leadership
Participate in strategic planning, academic initiatives, and administrative leadership
Collaborate with university and hospital leadership on program growth
Enjoy a structured clinical schedule with a mix of procedures, outpatient care, and subspecialty clinics.
Two procedure days per week (1012 cases per day)
Two clinic days with a mix of new and follow-up patients
One administrative day weekly
Opportunities to practice in hepatology, general GI, and IBD clinics
You will lead a well-supported, collaborative team focused on quality care and patient access.
Oversees a team of 46 physicians
Supported by APPs and dedicated RN care managers
Work with GI fellows (3 per year; Access to university-affiliated research initiatives and collaboration
Shared call structure with fellows taking first call
Approximately 1:4 call rotation (targeting 1:6)
Weekend call included with flexibility
Physician-centered culture with strong leadership support
Leadership influence in shaping and growing a GI program
