Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months within the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is required.

• Experience with Epic is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• Flu vaccination required for submission. Religious and medical declinations accepted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: First-time travelers accepted with a minimum of 18 months of MedSurg and/or ICU experience plus Epic or Cerner experience required; if experience is strictly ICU, Cerner is required. RNs are required to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every 4 hours.

Preferred Skills/Experience: Chemotherapy experience highly preferred but not required.

Special Requests: You can only have 1 active application for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). If you apply for day shift, you can also apply for night shift on the same unit and facility, but you cannot apply for another day shift position on the same unit and facility. Must be away from Baptist for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. Holiday time off is not contractually guaranteed prior to arrival. Up to 7 days off may be approved, excluding blackout dates; blackout dates require NM/ENAH approval. Blackout RTO dates include Thanksgiving (11/26-30) and Christmas and New Year’s (12/21-1/1).

Unit Details: Float pool may cover trauma/surgical, neuroscience, med-surg/oncology, orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology patient populations. Patient populations and cases include general and vascular surgery; CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative diseases, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; med-surg/oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal; orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; and urology and ENT patients. Typically 1:4 ratio; with the lower patient load, RNs are expected to turn patients and assist with baths and ADLs. Skills and procedures used across units include wound care, chest tubes, NGT/PEG care, trach care, colostomy/ostomy care, IV starts, blood draws from central lines, central line dressing changes, drains, foleys, restraints, PCA pumps, wound vacs, C-collars, abdominal binders, and surgical site care. Telemetry is monitored on hallway monitors and by tele techs. Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell, and Spacelabs monitors.

Shift & Scheduling: Weekend rotation is every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. No call. One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy. 4-week schedule cycle; no self-scheduling, uses Smart Square.

Floating Requirements: May float to any like unit or patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

7 days maximum time off.
