We are seeking a hard-working, innovative, detail-oriented, and creative team player to join our Aptive team! The Senior Director of Engineering leads Aptive's software engineering organization, owning technical strategy, delivery, and the health of multiple engineering teams. This role sets architecture direction across the software stack, grows and develops engineering leaders, and is accountable for the availability, quality, and reliability of the business-critical systems that power Aptive's customers, field operations, billing/payments, and data platforms.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead multiple software engineering teams; own hiring, performance management, career development, and team health

• Set architecture and platform direction across the software stack; guide major technical decisions

• Own predictable, high-quality delivery across the engineering portfolio; establish planning, metrics, and operating cadence

• Ensure availability, performance, and data integrity of business-critical systems including field operations, billing/payments, and the data platform

• Partner with Product, Finance, and Operations leadership to align priorities, tradeoffs, and outcomes

• Own build-vs-buy decisions, key vendor/integration relationships, and infrastructure/tooling spend efficiency

• Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements:      

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience

• Advanced degree preferred but not required

• 10+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading engineering teams and experience managing managers

• Deep software engineering expertise across distributed systems, cloud-native services, APIs/integrations, and data platforms

• Proven ability to lead engineering organizations at scale, including managing managers (leaders of leaders)

• Strong architecture and system-design judgment; balances velocity with long-term system health, security, and cost.

• Command of modern engineering practices: secure SDLC, testing, CI/CD, observability, and operational excellence

• Ability to translate business strategy into technical roadmaps and predictable, high-quality delivery

• Financial acumen for build-vs-buy, vendor, and infrastructure-cost decisions

• Ability to solve ambiguous, cross-domain technical and organizational problems under high-growth pressure

• Communicates complex technical tradeoffs clearly to executive, product, and finance stakeholders
