Full job description
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible for inspecting poultry carcass identifying unacceptable defects and removing from processing line prior to disassembly. This role will perform duties in compliance with all company policies and procedures, regulatory agency guidelines and all Federal and State legal requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
- Sort and inspect a sample of poultry carcasses, parts and viscera to identify and condemn/discard any that evidence signs of contamination (feed or feces), disease (Tuberculosis, Airsaculitis, Inflammatory Process, Tumors, Ascites, etc.) or other defect (Mutilation, Overscald ,Cadaver Septicemia, etc) which renders them unfit for human consumption
- Rotate to sort and inspect all carcasses for Leukosis tumors as needed
- Maintain condemn/ salvage summary/log ensuring daily reporting is accurately completed and recorded as required
- Follow and promote all safety initiatives, (i.e. wear appropriate PPE when mandatory) helping to maintain a zero accident culture
- Perform additional relevant duties as assigned
EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must take and pass NPIS training
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Minimum 6 months experience in a poultry processing plant
- Knowledge of poultry quality and defects
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to determine if product does/ does not meet specification standards
- Ability to meet or exceed inspection standards
- Self-starter who demonstrates strong initiative and sense of urgency, with the ability to work in a fast paced environment
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Follow and ensure others follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
- Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work non-standard shifts (weekends, off shift and holidays) as needed
- Ability to work on a work stand to inspect poultry carcasses at eye level
- Work in a cold, wet environment and/ or hot environment
- Ability to work in a noisy environment (>85 decibels)
