Full job description
The Supply Planner owns supply plans for an assigned medical device product portfolio, translating demand, inventory targets, and new product plans into feasible supplier and purchasing requirements. The role balances service, inventory, cost, and capacity; resolves complex supply exceptions; and identifies risks early enough to protect customer availability.
Working with approved suppliers and partners in Quality, Engineering, Marketing, Logistics, Finance, and Sourcing, this individual leads planning improvements, supports product launches and transitions, and uses data to recommend and execute corrective actions. The role provides guidance to less experienced planners without direct people management responsibility.
Principal Duties and Job Responsibilities
• Own the rolling supply plan for assigned product lines; reconcile forecasts, open orders, inventory, lead times, supplier capacity, and service requirements through the sales and operations planning process.
• Maintain and improve SAP planning parameters, including lead times, lot sizes, safety stock, and sourcing data; analyze MRP output and resolve exceptions before they affect supply.
• Place and manage purchase orders and supplier schedules with approved suppliers; expedite or reschedule orders and coordinate recovery plans for shortages and past due deliveries.
• Lead supplier production and capacity reviews, identify constraints and material risks, and develop contingency plans with Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, and suppliers.
• Plan supply for new product introductions, engineering changes, and product phaseouts; coordinate qualification timing, initial builds, ramp up, and inventory transition.
• Set and monitor inventory actions to reduce stockouts, excess, and obsolete stock while meeting service and working capital objectives.
• Analyze forecast accuracy, on time delivery, inventory, backlog, and other planning measures; explain variances and drive corrective actions with clear owners and timelines to support S&OP.
• Assess supplier capability, capacity, quality, and cost in support of sourcing decisions and allocation of demand among qualified suppliers.
• Partner with Sourcing on supplier agreements, commercial changes, and cost reduction opportunities that affect supply continuity and total cost.
• Lead cross functional process improvements for planning, purchasing, and inventory; document standard work and coach less experienced planners on analytical methods and exception management.
• Participate in supplier business reviews and visit supplier facilities as needed to evaluate performance, processes, capacity, and recovery plans.
• Carry out all work in accordance with company policies, quality requirements, and applicable procedures; perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or a related field required.
• At least three years of progressive experience in supply planning, purchasing, or supply chain management; medical device or other regulated manufacturing experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ownership of complex supply plans, supplier constraints, inventory decisions, and cross functional recovery actions.
• Experience using SAP for MRP, purchasing, and inventory management required; advanced Excel and data analysis skills required.
• Working knowledge of sales and operations planning, forecasting, inventory management, and new product introduction.
• Strong communication, problem solving, prioritization, and stakeholder management skills; ability to influence decisions without direct authority.
• Experience improving planning processes and using performance measures to sustain results.
• APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
