JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: CNC Machinist Trainee

SUMMARY:

CNC Machinists Trainee's assist the most highly skilled industrial workers. They use power-operated CNC

machine tools that mass-produce metal parts. These are precision parts and tools used in building various

kinds of engines, machinery, and other products.

Assisting machinist while working from written specifications and blueprints, machinist sets the tools and

sequence of operations for each job as directed. Trainee must review blueprints and specifications of a

particular product and plan the production process to match the job routing.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain the highest level of quality control per our ISO standards.

Assist machinist in troubleshooting machine and tooling problems to keep scrap and rework to a

minimum.

Perform inspections with required tools per the IPI

Assist with sets up and operation of conventional, special purpose and numerical control machines and

machining centers

Studies prints, sketches and drawing, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions

and tolerances of finished piecework

Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed coolant flow, and depth

of angle of cut or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media as

required

Assist machinist in fabricate parts per the routing instructions

Adjust the machines to the speed

Change tools as required or directed

Communicate problems to the shift supervisor and/or machinists from other shifts

Record job issues on the Production Control form.

Complete Job Cards daily for all work performed.

Assist machinist in performing program off sets as required.

Maintain and secure work tools per our tool requirements.

Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on machinery

Clean and maintain work area.

Turn off and lock out equipment when not in use when applicable.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Debur parts while running a machine (if cycle allows)

Perform back up of programs when job is completed

Tag ALL con-conforming parts

Order tools on the white boards as required

Communicate on the white board as required

Participate in "walk-about" when applicable

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Basic reading, writing, and some advanced arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through

a high school diploma or trade school.

2. Experience using one or more of the following tools: lathe, milling machine, drill press, and

vertical/horizontal cut off saw.

3. Ability to read and interpret, blueprints and routing.

4. Knowledge of Geometric tolerances

5. Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.

6. Advanced skills (Journeyman level) require programming knowledge. And job setting experience.

LIFTING AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Walking to and from the storage facility and throughout the plant

Bending, stooping and standing

Lifting not to exceed 30 pounds

WORKING CONDITIONS;

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves frequent lifting of materials

up to 30 pounds; cranes are available for heavier items.

Machinery and tool operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety

glasses, hearing protectors as needed, closed toed leather shoes. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are

not permitted because they present safety concerns.
