WHO YOU ARE
You are pursuing a bachelor's degree or master's degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related major at an accredited college/university with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and Summer 2028
Experience learning programming languages and technology tools (examples include Java, Python, SQL, Azure DevOps, and Github)
You have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
You have good verbal and written communication skills
You are curious about financial markets and interested in learning more about the financial services industry
You have proven analytical, data interpretation, problem-solving, critical and strategic thinking skills through coursework and/or previous internship experience
You have demonstrated leadership and teamwork through projects and extracurricular involvement
WHAT YOU’LL DO
As an intern at Northern Trust, you will have the opportunity to build relevant skills, work on meaningful projects, and participate in a collaborative program designed to support your early career development. You will work directly with your team on day-to-day tasks while joining internship program events to develop new skills, network with senior leaders, and connect with fellow interns in the program. Through hands-on experience, meaningful project work, and exposure to a dynamic global business, you will begin to see how your interests can grow into a long-term career at Northern Trust. A recruiter will work with you to determine the best team placement given your interests, skill set, and relevant experience.
Technology interns are fully integrated into engineering and technology teams, contributing to real financial solutions. Interns gain an inside look into the innovative technologies, practices, and business solutions that power a frontrunner in financial services.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN:
Hands-on experience in professional software engineering by working alongside application and platform development teams, participating in Agile development practices, collaborating with business and technology stakeholders, and learning modern engineering principles such as CI/CD and test-driven development
Contribute to the design, development, deployment, maintenance, and modernization of real financial technology solutions, including applications, databases, data pipelines, APIs, microservices, and cloud-based platforms
Every internship in technology regardless of discipline is likely to involve:
Some automation via coding, whether simple OS shell scripting, low code automations or other form
The use or development of some generative AI capabilities
SAMPLE FUTURE CAREER PATHS/TRACKS:
Technology Analyst in the Software Engineering track as part of our Analyst Development Program (ADP).
Salary Range:
Salary is $35.00 USD per hourSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
