Shift: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM

Experience:

• 12 months of experience with 3 months worked in the last 12 months.

• 18 months of Medical Surgical Float Pool experience.

• Experience with Cerner is preferred.

Requirements:

• Candidates must have a Alabama license or compact license (required after submission).

• This role will require floating to multiple units

• Travel only, local not allowed. Candidates must live >60 miles from facility to be submitted.

• 6 months gap required between for Staff at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB and no current placement allowed at Program: SimpliFi Program - Baptist Health UAB.

Additional Details:

Required Skills/Experience: - First-time travelers allowed if they have at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience and EPIC or Cerner experience. - At least 1 year of trauma/surgical experience.

Preferred Skills/Experience: - Chemo experience highly preferred.

Special Requests: - Only 1 active application is allowed for the same position (same unit and shift at the same facility). You may apply to both day and night shift on the same unit and facility, but not to more than one day shift position on the same unit and facility. - Staff must be gone for 6 months before returning as a traveler, measured from last shift worked to start date. - Holiday time off is not guaranteed prior to arrival. - Baptist blackout 2026 RTO dates: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 1/19-20; Valentine’s Day week 2/13-16; entire month of March; Easter weekend 4/18-20; Mother’s Day weekend 5/10-12; Memorial Day week 5/24-5/26; Father’s Day weekend 6/14-16; Fourth of July 7/3-6; Labor Day weekend 8/30-9/1; Halloween 10/30-11/2; Thanksgiving 11/26-30; Christmas and New Year’s 12/21-1/1.

Unit Details: - Possible home units include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Med/Surg-Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology. - Patient populations include general surgery and vascular surgery; CVA, TBI, seizures, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, degenerative disease, post-trauma, and angiogram patients; Med/Surg-Oncology, palliative care, and ETOH withdrawal; CDU Med/Surg patients including COPD, CHF, diabetes, MRSA, VRE, C-diff, COVID, pneumonia, renal failure, sepsis, UTI, and end-of-life comfort; orthopedic and spine cases including joint replacements, fractures, fusions, and laminectomies; and urology, ENT, ortho, and Med/Surg patients. - Patient ratios vary by unit: generally 1:5-6; Med/Surg-Oncology 1:6; Orthopedics 1:5 or 1:6 if Med/Surg. - Expected skills across float assignments include wound care, chest tubes, NGT and PEG care, trach care, IV starts, central line blood draws and dressing changes, ostomy care, drains, foleys, restraints, PCA pumps, surgical site care, suctioning, O2 therapy, pressure ulcer management, and telemetry monitoring. - Telemetry may be monitored by tele techs, and RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours. - Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell, and Spacelabs monitors. - Chemo administration may be needed if certified.

Shift & Scheduling: - Flexible contract hours: 36 or 48 per week. - Weekend rotation: every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month. - No on-call. - One major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.

Floating Requirements: - May float to any like unit/patient location (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds; ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task or limit of 3, ICU-ER/ICU holds).

10 days maximum time off.
