Job Description
We are seeking a self-motivated Machine Operator with strong multitasking skills and exceptional attention to detail. In this role, you will operate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform minor maintenance on automated equipment. A deep understanding of both machine operations and product build is essential to maximize production yields and equipment uptime. We are looking for an individual dedicated to high-quality workmanship who can consistently meet scheduling deadlines and exceed customer expectations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Observe all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) rules, including housekeeping practices; participate in EHS meetings, investigations, and audits. Proactively communicate and address safety concerns
• Follow all life-critical policies and procedures (Lock-out/Tag-Out, Confined Space Entry, Line-Break)
• Set up, clean, and monitor machine operations according to standard operating instructions
• Understand department safety, quality, and regulatory requirements, and production goals; actively engage in meeting these goals
• Move and inspect raw materials and products to ensure there are no visual defects; take corrective action as needed
• Perform checks to ensure accuracy per product specifications, ensure overall product quality, and track in manual logs or computer system to capture deviations and quality traceability data
• Perform material disposition on all work-in-process (WIP) parts as assigned
• Interrupt machine operation as necessary to correct operating problems; minimize production of materials that do not meet specifications by quickly taking action and using investigative, troubleshooting, and mechanical skills
• Accurately measure work in process (WIP) and finished goods 
• Communicate technical issues promptly to all levels (managers, co-workers, maintenance, engineers, etc.) 
• Assist in training other operators
• Assist with failures & perform regular minor preventive maintenance
• Perform troubleshooting to solve equipment malfunctions
• Perform complete setup, adjustments, startup, and shutdown of all equipment in the area
• Keep accurate records and explain any discrepancies, if necessary
• Perform any additional duties as assigned by Supervisor or Lead
• Tasks specifically related to the Membrane or E-SEP Department:  
  • Conduct handling and mixing of chemicals according to prescribed formulas and procedures (strong acids, bases, and solvents are used in regular process) 
  • Contain, label, store, and transfer hazardous waste according to applicable regulations 
  • May be required to unload and test bulk chemical tankers

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledgeable with computer applications, including basic functions in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Basic SAP Knowledge
• Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude
• Strong communication skills both verbally and written
• High attention to detail

Education & Experience:

Required

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 1 year of experience as a machine operator, chemical mixer/handler, machinist, or military service in a technical background, including job experience performing shop math calculations such as fraction and decimal equivalents, machine operation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of automated equipment

Preferred

• Experience with forklift operations, LOTO operations, and confined space operations (HVAC HEPA Filter Changes) 
• Experience participating in the development of work instructions and operating guides
• Lean manufacturing experience
• Quality inspection experience
• Previous experience performing setup, troubleshooting, and operation of automated machines
• Experience with tasks specifically related to the Membrane or E-SEP Department:  
  • Use of lab equipment such as FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), UV-Vis (ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy), Karl Fischer, viscometer, conductivity meter, micrometer, or other similar lab equipment 
  • Familiarity with plumbing/ fluid transfer basics including valve orientation, air bleeding, isolation, and more 
  • Troubleshooting a continuous web or paper handling process 

Work Conditions:

• Work may take place with chemicals, including reactive chemicals, solvents, acids, and bases
• Must be able to work overtime and may be required to come in 4 hours early or stay 4 hours late to ensure lines remain running
• Work may consist of a rotating schedule that includes regular weekend coverage
• Ability to lift/handle up to 50 pounds
• Must wear personal protective equipment at all times when required (safety glasses, gloves, earplugs, safety shoes, and, on an intermittent basis, respirator protection in the form of a PAPR)

Compensation:
The hourly rate of $23.00 is tied to the market for similarly benchmarked roles
