Full job description

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, licensed independent practitioner, or manager, the Nurse Extern assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These direct activities may include, assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care, safety, nutritional support and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities may include maintaining a clean, safe environment, sterilization and ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.

NOTE: This is a temporary, full-time position that will run 10 weeks.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: N/A

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent

Experience REQUIRED: N/A

Experience PREFERRED:
Acute care experience as a nursing assistant or aide experience

Education/training REQUIRED:
Completion of first semester junior year in a BSN program dependent upon school curriculum. 
Associate Degree and Diploma programs: completion of first year or a minimum of two semesters of basic nursing courses.

Education/training PREFERRED: N/A

Independent action(s) required:
Functions under direction of RN in providing patient care, emotional support, nursing in-services, patient conferences, rounding with physicians and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor: time/schedule changes, legal issues, directed care which deviates from standard, identify educational resources to meet developmental needs

Additional position requirements:
Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.

Physical: Lifting 20-50 lbs.

Compensation Rate: $18.25
