Full job description

A well-established MEP engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Project Manager – MEP / Architectural Engineering to join its Milwaukee team.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an engineering or A/E professional who combines strong technical knowledge with proven experience leading projects, multidisciplinary design teams, client relationships, budgets, schedules, and successful project delivery.

The organization specializes in high-performance, energy-efficient building systems and provides multidisciplinary engineering services across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural lighting, sustainability, and commissioning.

While candidates with Mechanical or Electrical Engineering backgrounds are strongly preferred, qualified professionals from Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Engineering, or related A/E disciplines may also be considered if they have substantial direct experience coordinating MEP design and building systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering and multidisciplinary design projects from initiation through successful delivery.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, quality standards, contractual requirements, and profitability.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate activities across multiple concurrent projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Develop project task lists, scopes of work, schedules, staffing plans, and task-level budgets.
  • Assign project responsibilities and provide ongoing leadership, direction, and mentoring to project team members.
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, architectural, structural, civil, and other applicable design disciplines.
  • Monitor project performance to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
  • Maintain accountability for the quality and accuracy of project deliverables.
  • Coordinate effectively with architects, engineers, owners, contractors, and external subconsultants.
  • Serve as a primary client contact throughout project execution while developing and maintaining long-term client relationships.
  • Participate in proposal development, fee development, presentations, and contract negotiations.
  • Identify scope changes and obtain appropriate client authorization before performing additional services.
  • Review project invoices and assist with project financial performance and collections.
  • Promote collaboration across disciplines while helping develop junior engineers, designers, and project staff.
  • Support company design standards, quality initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in engineering design, architectural/design project management, engineering project management, engineering leadership, or consulting engineering.
  • Proven experience leading projects from initiation through successful delivery.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for project scope, schedules, budgets, client relationships, multidisciplinary teams, and overall project delivery.
  • Direct experience working with and coordinating MEP design and building systems.
  • Experience within an MEP consulting engineering, architectural engineering, building systems, or A/E consulting environment strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Engineering/Management, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
  • Strong client-facing communication, leadership, planning, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering and building codes.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Autodesk Revit preferred.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis and load-calculation software is beneficial.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and project teams while maintaining exceptional client service.

MEP Design & Technical Background

Candidates with a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background are strongly encouraged to apply.

Mechanical experience may include:
