Academic General Gastroenterology Physician Scientist Ladder Rank/In Residence Professor

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for 1 full-time faculty member in the Ladder Rank/In Residence series at the Professor rank in Gastroenterology. Faculty in the Ladder Rank/In Residence series are expected to engage in professional competence and activity, teaching, research and creative work, and University/public service.

EXPECTATIONS
The position will be primarily dedicated to establishing and maintaining an extramurally funded research program in cell therapies for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The final candidate will be expected to provide gastroenterology consultation and endoscopy services focused on patients with IBD at ambulatory sites located in the greater Sacramento region and share in call at the UC Davis Medical Center. Educational responsibilities will include supervision of consultations and procedures by fellows, residents, and medical students as well as providing lectures to various audiences.

The GI Division currently includes 27 faculty and 4 nurse practitioners, who provide services at 5 clinics and 5 ambulatory endoscopy units, with ongoing expansion. Strengths of the division include robust programs in motility, IBD, advanced endoscopy and a new liver transplant program. Clinical research within the division is supported by the GI Clinical Research Unit which includes 8 research coordinators and staff supporting over 50 studies. The division has a long-standing history of providing outstanding patient care and medical education and recent expansion on the training program to include 12 GI Fellows and 1 Advanced Endoscopy Fellow.

UC Davis Health serves a 65,000-square-mile area that includes 33 counties and 6 million residents across Northern and Central California. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Candidates must possess or be eligible for the following:
* M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O. or equivalent degree
* Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
* The clinical skills and interest in IBD
* Extramural funding in research related to IBD

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION

  • Board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology

  • Medical licensure or eligible for licensure in the state of California

  • ACGME accredited fellowship or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated a track record of extramural funding, including NIH funding, publication, and leadership in cell based therapies for IBD.

  • Expertise in IBD care and endoscopic procedures.

  • The ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.
