Senior IBM Z/TPF Software Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking a Senior IBM z/TPF Software Engineer with 8+ years of experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-volume transaction-processing applications using HLASM/Assembler. The role focuses on application development, production debugging, root-cause analysis, system internals, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and support IBM z/TPF applications using HLASM/Assembler.
• Troubleshoot production issues using z/TPF Toolkit, debuggers, dump analysis, and diagnostic tools.
• Analyze ECB processing, registers, storage, work areas, control blocks, flags, and transaction flows.
• Support TPFDF records, ordinals, chain records, and database access logic.
• Perform root-cause analysis and implement production-safe fixes.
• Trace complex assembler code and macro-generated processing flows.
• Conduct code reviews, mentor developers, and collaborate with architects and business teams.
• Prepare technical documentation and support testing, deployments, and post-release validation.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of IBM z/TPF and HLASM/Assembler experience.
• Strong knowledge of z/TPF architecture, ECB processing, storage management, and transaction processing.
• Experience with production debugging, dump analysis, and diagnostic utilities.
• Experience with high-volume transaction systems such as airline, transportation, reservation, ticketing, inventory, or logistics.
• Familiarity with Git, Jira, and Agile/Scrum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with TPFDF and file/record structures.
• C and C/Assembler integration experience.
• Familiarity with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and JCL.
• Experience modernizing and optimizing legacy assembler applications.
