Position Overview
Shift Gears Physical Therapy Services is seeking an experienced and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant to join our dedicated orthopedic team in Lockport, New York. This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic healthcare environment, providing essential rehabilitative services to patients recovering from musculoskeletal injuries and surgeries.

Work Environment
This position is based onsite in a hospital setting, where you will engage in hands-on therapy and play a crucial role in the patient recovery process. Our orthopedic unit is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and technology designed to enhance rehabilitation effectiveness. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9 am to 5 pm, allowing for a balanced work-life dynamic.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed Physical Therapists in the design and implementation of individual treatment plans tailored to meet the specific needs of each patient.
- Utilize hands-on therapy skills to provide therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and modalities according to professional standards.
- Continuously monitor and document patient progress, making necessary adjustments to treatment protocols while maintaining accurate records in our electronic health system.
- Educate patients on proper exercise techniques and provide supportive instructions to reinforce their home exercise programs.
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians and nursing staff, to ensure a coordinated approach to patient care.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to all safety protocols and industry regulations.
Patient Population / Client Focus
In this role, you will work closely with a diverse range of patients, primarily those recovering from orthopedic surgeries such as joint replacements, sports injuries, and fractures. You will be responsible for helping patients of all ages regain mobility, strength, and independence while providing compassionate support during their rehabilitation journeys.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.
- Current active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) state license.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in an orthopedic setting is essential.
- Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, rehabilitative techniques, and medical terminology.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and collaborate with healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining the highest levels of professionalism.
Preferred Experience
While the minimum requirement is 2 years of experience, candidates with additional experience in specialized orthopedic therapies or certifications in rehabilitation techniques will be given priority. Experience with electronic health record systems is also preferred to streamline documentation processes.
Compensation and Benefits
