Join our specialized 19-bed Surgical Progressive Care Unit (PCU) caring for high-acuity patients recovering from:
Abdominal Transplant (TXP):Kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants
Hepatobiliary Surgery (HPB):Liver resections, Whipple procedures, and pancreatectomies
ENT Surgery:Fresh tracheostomies, laryngectomies, free flaps, and complex head and neck surgeries
Plastic & Orthopedic Microsurgery:Limb and digit replants, flap procedures, nerve transfers, and leech therapy
General Surgery/Trauma/Geriatric Trauma (ACCS):MVC, polytrauma, GSW, TBI, SDH s/p falls, emergent VHR

163PCU is a 19 bed surgical progressive care unit. The patient population is comprised of acutely ill surgical patients requiring a higher level of nursing care and monitoring. This unit primarily cares for post-op patients admitted to the Abdominal Transplant, Hepatobiliary Surgery, ENT/Plastics Surgery and Ortho-micro Surgery teams. Secondary, this unit manages critical care needs for patients admitted to the Trauma/ACCS/Geriatric Trauma Surgery teams, Orthopedic-Spine/Recon/Hand etc. teams as well as Vascular Surgery and other overflow teams.Preferred QualificationsRole Purpose
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.Responsibilities
Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
