The inspector will perform advanced visual inspection, dimensional measurement, depth gauge measurement, and Shore A durometer hardness inspection, ensuring all inspection findings conform to engineering drawings, technical specifications, and product definition data.
SQA Services is hiring immediately in Rock Hill, SC, Level II Composites Inspector.
This is a part-time 6-month contract with possibility of extension.
Schedule: Flexibility 1-3 days a week (Mon-Fri)
Mileage reimbursement and P2P
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect composite materials (i.e., carbon fiber, fiberglass, honeycomb, and bonded assemblies).
- Perform in-process, final, and first article inspections (AS9102) of aerospace composite parts and assemblies
- Identify and document composite-specific defects such as delamination, voids, bridging, porosity, and FOD.
- Review and verify traveler paperwork, ply layup charts, cure reports, and material traceability records.
- Conduct visual and dimensional inspections using inspection aids, depth gauges, and laser alignment tools.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, drawings, and AS9100/AS9102 quality standards.
- Accurately complete inspection reports and maintain proper records.
Skills and Qualifications
- 3+ years of direct experience inspecting composite materials in the aerospace industry.
- Strong knowledge of composite manufacturing processes including ply layup, autoclave/oven cure, vacuum bagging, and bonding.
- Familiarity with AS9102 FAI (First Article Inspection) processes.
- Ability to read and interpret aerospace engineering drawings, layup charts, and specifications.
- Visual acuity and inspection capability for complex composite geometries and surface conditions.
- Proficiency with basic inspection tools and documentation procedures.
- Familiarity with precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges).
- Some familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Ability to work independently at supplier sites and deescalate workplace conflicts effectively.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to create clear, concise, and accurate reports
- Must be able to meet ITAR requirements
- Must be willing to undergo a background check
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with mechanical inspection of aerospace components.
- Associate’s degree in technical discipline or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working with aerospace composite suppliers or OEMs.
- Certification in AS9102 or ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI)
- Knowledge of ERP or quality systems such as Net-Inspect, SAP, or equivalent.
