Great American is looking for an attorney to join our Property & Casualty Group Legal Department in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.  This position will provide legal advice and counsel in support of our business units and shared services groups with a particular focus on reviewing third party agreements and other vendor relationship matters.  The successful candidate will be a professional with excellent communication and analytical skills who complements our existing team. 

Our legal team is dedicated to providing the best possible legal support to Great American, and our team members must demonstrate flexibility while working as both subject matter specialists and general advisors.  This position is an excellent opportunity for a high-performing lawyer who is seeking a legal role that works closely with management teams throughout the organization. 

This position is ideal for someone who is comfortable handling a wide variety of legal issues and who is looking for a sophisticated and dynamic legal career, all while maintaining work/life balance.

To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on-site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Review, negotiate and provide counsel on a wide range of contracts for our Property & Casualty Group.
  • Counsel business and corporate services operations on insurance matters and general commercial and legal issues.
  • Develop relationships throughout the Company so that legal advice is tailored to the unique needs of each of our specialty insurance divisions.
  • Collaboratively work with other members of the Legal team to achieve optimal results for our business clients.
  • Engage in issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem solving on a daily basis.
  • Partner with other business support groups to assist in educating business clients on commercial and contractual issues.
  • Handle other matters within P&C Legal as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Excellent academic credentials, including a JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law.
  • 3+ years of prior relevant experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating agreements of all types, including technology contracts, services agreements and other commercial contracts.
  • Common sense, good judgment, and solution-oriented attitude toward legal issues.
  • Ability to solve problems and to provide practical, risk-based advice.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • The level and title of this position will be commensurate with experience.
