Full job description
Job Title: Director of Pharmacy
Compensation
Salary Range: $190,000 – $205,000 per year
Location: Greater Boston Area, MA - Onsite
Position Summary
As the Director of Pharmacy, you will provide strategic, operational, clinical, and regulatory leadership for pharmacy services across a high-acuity healthcare organization. This executive leadership role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and innovative medication management services while advancing departmental goals, financial performance, quality outcomes, and regulatory compliance. You will collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, nursing teams, and clinical stakeholders to drive excellence in patient care and pharmacy operations.
Responsibilities
Schedule / Shift
- Shift details: Full-Time
- Hours per week: 40+
- Contract length (if applicable): Direct Hire
Key Duties:
- Lead all pharmacy operations, including clinical services, compliance, quality improvement, budgeting, strategic planning, and policy development
- Oversee staffing, recruitment, succession planning, performance management, and professional development initiatives
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accreditation standards related to pharmacy operations
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and executive stakeholders to optimize medication utilization and improve patient outcomes
- Direct formulary management, inventory control, fiscal oversight, pharmacy residency programs, and departmental performance improvement initiatives
Requirements
Education
- Required: Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited U.S. School of Pharmacy
- Preferred (if applicable): Advanced degree such as MS, MBA, MHA, MPH, or equivalent
Licenses & Certifications
- Required: Current Massachusetts Pharmacist License or eligibility for licensure by date of hire
- Additional certifications (if applicable): PGY2 Pharmacy Administration experience preferred
Skills:
- Strong leadership experience managing hospital pharmacy operations and multidisciplinary teams
- Expertise in pharmacy regulations, medication management, controlled substance oversight, and accreditation requirements
- Proven financial management, budgeting, inventory control, and operational planning skills
- Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and staff development abilities
