Full job description
Summary
GrayMatter Robotics is a well-capitalized Physical AI company headquartered in Los Angeles, building Factory SuperIntelligence (FSI) through systems that learn, adapt, and develop genuine process intelligence across every part they touch. Our robots take on the tedious, hazardous, and ergonomically demanding work that has kept manufacturing dependent on a shrinking skilled workforce, delivering superhuman performance. Robotics has a demo problem. GMR doesn't. Our systems are in active production today, adapting autonomously to real geometries, real materials, and real process variation without reprogramming. We deliver our system through a Robots-as-a-Service (RaaS) model that converts capital expenditure into an operating subscription, making Physical AI accessible to the manufacturers who need it most. We hire people who want to solve hard physical problems at an industrial scale.
The Robotics Engineer (Software): Government Projects will enable customer success by leading the implementation, deployment, and support of innovative robotic manufacturing systems that go beyond GMR's current product offerings. This role is for someone who thinks outside the box and wants to push the limits of what our systems can do, working across a mix of R&D feature development and hands-on delivery for proof of concepts, pilot demonstrations and specialized systems.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement algorithms, systems, and architecture for high-DOF robotic systems working in manufacturing environments.
Partner with Systems and Applications Engineers to define robotics software feature requirements needed for non-standard and R&D projects
Execute proof-of-concept projects that demonstrate the capabilities of GrayMatter Robotics' (GMR) robotic technologies
Stay up to date with new research and novel findings in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence.
Test and evaluate current state-of-art algorithms and techniques of planning, learning, perception, and control.
Collaborate with the Robotics Software team to maintain coding best practices and standards, so R&D prototypes can transition smoothly into the product codebase
Will be responsible for maintaining any software features and versioning for systems deployed to govt facilities.
Rapidly modify and iterate on the current software stack
Rapidly test and prototype new inspection sensors, tools, and processes, partnering with sensor vendors to evaluate emerging technologies
Partner with GMR software engineers to prototype new ideas, processes, and methods
Export Control Requirements
In order to comply with the export regulations of the United States Government, it is required that the applicant must fall under one of the following categories: (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful permanent resident (i.e. current green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
2+ years of demonstrated industry experience in developing, implementing, and testing algorithms for planning/learning/perception/control.
Software development for complex function-based software that interacts with sensor inputs, control loops, and redundancy.
Proficiency in C++ and Python production-level coding.
Proficiency in working with ROS2 and other open-source libraries relevant to robotics.
Excellent technical and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of production deploying complex robotics systems
Experience with R&D of robotics systems
Experience with robot sensors including LiDARs, stereo/depth cameras
Experience with 6DOF robot arms
Experience with state-of-art robotics algorithms (e.g. VLA)
