YOUR IMPACT STARTS HERE
We're looking for a Project Engineer to join our Materials Technology team at Victaulic's Global Headquarters in Easton, PA. In this role, you'll lead the development and commercialization of products built on advanced materials, with a primary focus on rubber and elastomeric compound formulation, alongside related work in thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, coatings, and metallic alloys. You'll guide products from concept through steady-state production, gaining hands-on experience in rubber and plastic part design, polymer and elastomer processing, and instrumental analysis techniques such as FTIR, DMA, DSC, TGA, tensile testing, Mooney viscosity, and cure rheometry.
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD & OWN
- Lead development and commercialization of rubber and elastomeric compound formulations, as well as related work in thermoplastics, thermosets, composites, coatings, and metallic alloys
- Guide products from concept generation through steady-state production using a Design Review or phased development process
- Formulate and compound rubber/elastomeric materials (e.g., EPDM, nitrile, silicone) and new polymers to meet customer specifications
- Select and evaluate curing systems, fillers, and additives for rubber compounds
- Troubleshoot rubber molding processes (compression, transfer, injection) and resolve compound-related defects
- Facilitate multi-departmental teams through test and validation of non-metallic sub-assemblies and products, from detailed design through commercialization
- Conduct instrumental analysis of chemicals and polymers, including thermal, mechanical, and chemical testing
- Participate in supplier selection, prototyping, tooling selection and approval, and evaluation of pilot production runs
- Lead design reviews to confirm customer and performance requirements, and resolve tolerance issues
- Prepare and approve technical literature, and support education/training on new products
WHAT YOU BRING
- BS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering (BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering with rubber/elastomer or plastics/polymer experience will also be considered)
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in rubber/elastomer compound formulation and development
- Knowledge of polymeric material testing and failure analysis, including rubber-specific test methods (Mooney viscosity, cure rheometry, compression set, durometer hardness)
- Experience with rubber molding processes (compression, transfer, or injection molding of elastomers)
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills to resolve technical issues
- Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills in standard MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Ability to travel globally as required, up to 25%
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- MS in Chemical, Materials, or Polymer Engineering
- Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset materials, from commodity grades to complex engineering grades
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for polymer-based part optimization (Abaqus or Ansys preferred)
- Experience running analysis with Mold Flow Insight
