Provides guidance in the development of vehicle/equipment specifications, preventative maintenance practices, and manufacturer/vendor selection for Duke Energy. Participates in overall relationships with manufacturer/vendor/dealer technical, service, and parts personnel. Maintains relationships with departmental management and contacts to ensure customer needs for vehicles/equipment are met. Supports development of long-range business plans for Fleet Services and customers in alignment with overall company strategy. This consultant level role is expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Fleet Acquisitions:

• Responsible for annual fleet replacements / acquisitions for assigned asset types to meet customer needs while complying with budget guidance.
• Supports vehicle/equipment purchasing agreements and contracts ensuring compliance with term, conditions, pricing, etc.
• Provides technical guidance to the Business Unit in the development of vehicle and equipment specifications including modifications as well as vendor/manufacturer selection process.
• Acts as project manager throughout the acquisition process, providing status updates and coordination throughout the vehicle/equipment ordering, manufacturing, delivery, and upfitting lifecycle.

 

Fleet Management Software:

• Participates in the development of reports relative to fleet inventories of vehicles/equipment.
• Processes the reassignment of vehicles/equipment in a timely manner, updating information accordingly in the Fleet Management system.
• Participates in the development of communications to Fleet Services organization related to campaign, recall, diagnostic, and other technical related items.

 

Vehicle & Equipment Recommendation/Safety:

• Assist in developing and maintaining technical specifications for Duke Energy vehicles and equipment
• Supports standards teams consisting of fleet services and user group personnel with the goal of providing standard, safe, and reliable vehicles/equipment that meet user department requirements.
• Assist in developing and maintaining preventative maintenance for Duke Energy vehicles and equipment

 Industry Relationships:

• Supports dealer, manufacturer, and supplier relationships, including vehicle/equipment ordering, production tracking, expediting, and parts procurement activities

Specific Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 years' relevant experience or 4 years' equivalent industry experience.”
• Working knowledge of vehicle systems, operations, applications, and specifications.
• Ability to interpret federal, state, and regulatory requirements that are applicable to fleet operations. Includes DOT, ANSI, OSHA, and others.
• Knowledge of applicable systems including Maximo and Fleet Mobile App.
• Familiarity with Duke Energy Sedgewick Claims Administration.
• Strong negotiation and customer relationship skills.
• Experience or equivalent training in the diagnosis and repair of gasoline and diesel engine vehicles, hydraulic mobile equipment, and pneumatic and electronic systems.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

• 4-Year Bachelors Degree in Technical or Business related field (Mechanical Engineer
• Class A CDL
• 5+ years as a Duke Energy VMT III 
• Experience in the utility industry.
