Report ToVice President of Engineering

Mission Statement:

Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Lead Designer is to monitor and direct the flow of a job through the design and engineering phases of Therma-Tron-X, Inc. equipment. The Lead Designer takes direction from the VP of Engineering and reports progress to the Project Engineer.

General Responsibilities:


Review sales drawings and new concepts

Design systems

Support and direct R & D projects

Delegate the detailing to the CAD Detailers

Follow progress and check drawings on work completed by Detailers

Monitor and report on requisitions and the status of materials for a job, particularly items that require long lead times

Create completion dates and deadlines for each phase and drawing of job

Insure coordination between final drawings and actual equipment prior to shipping

Evaluate a job upon completion for its strengths and weaknesses and make recommendations


Specific Day to Day Responsibilities:


Report the status of jobs by phase each wee:

-   Provide a list of jobs and phases to the Vice President of Engineering before the Production Meeting, including release dates or proposed release dates for each phase.

-   Designate the progress of each phase by percent (100% = released to the shop)

-   Provide a status report on parts and materials with long lead times. Include requisition dates.

-   Comment of any other significant issues including:

ž   Major design changes

ž   Drawings on hold due to pending decisions by PE’s, customers, etc.

ž   Delays in the release of drawings

ž   Jobs taking priority this week

ž   Pending, unresolved problems

ž   Report the status of jobs by phase each week

Communications and follow-up

-   Delegate workflow to the Detailers

-   Ensure that drawings are complete and accurate before release to the shop. Check with the PE if necessary.

-   Update Detailers on design changes, standards, etc. that come from Management OR the shop

-   Ensure coordination of responsibilities with TTX Environmental to provide overlap of system layout and design

-   Address questions/suggestions/problems from key shop personnel that pertain to specific drawings. Communicate corrections and changes to Detailers.

Improvement and problem resolution

-   Brainstorming session, use “multiple brains” to solve problems and develop ideas

-   Identify areas for improvement

ž   Miscommunication between departments

ž   Recurring design problems, common errors

ž   Missing, incorrect or double ordered parts

ž   Inaccurate or incomplete drawings

Development

-   Review the entire engineering process and make written recommendations for improvements in designs and processes

-   Distribute copies of recommendations to key personnel

-   Communicate approved changes to Detailers and follow-up on future drawings

Requirements
