Milwaukee Tool is seeking a Metrology Technician to support in the Quality Lab – Inspections, Analysis, Testing, Documentation. Metrology Lab Support for Engineering, Manufacturing, and Suppliers in measuring and testing. Track Metrology and Inspection Projects and Report on Status.
You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
Quality and Inspection Planning
- Develops inspection strategies based on best practices, ASME standards, and business needs.
- Facilitates and coordinates inspection related continuous improvement plans.
- Establishes and Implements an effective calibration system for gages and instruments.
- Coordinate outside Calibration Services to conduct calibration on devices and equipment, when necessary.
- Support engineering & design with critical dimension analysis and dimensional measurement planning based on ASME standards.
- Support CAPEX documentation for Metrology Equipment and Instrumentation.
Part Measurement and Part Qualification
- Sets-up data collection parameters for inspection measurements where required.
- ASME GDTP Technologist level certification 2009 (preferred).
- Interprets Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 to identify product inspection requirements.
- Creates, edits, and serves as technical expert for inspection programs utilizing, CALYPSO, and INSPEC metrology inspection.
- Develop new inspection techniques as required.
- Support and assist in evaluating new metrology instrumentation.
- Develops methods of attribute and variable gage evaluations to consider calibration frequencies, gauge life, fit for purpose evaluations.
- Performs 1st Article inspection or of newly developed parts or products (when applicable).
- Documentation of Gauge R&R/test method validation and engineering reports.
- Documentation of work instructions for gauge usage or set-up instructions.
Design Assistance and Training
- Participates in design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure that conformance to specifications, Design for Inspection (inspectability), reliability, and quality system objectives are met.
- Utilize CAD software (NX, SolidWorks) to design development of inspection gages and fixtures to ensure minimum measurement error during inspection.
- Assist engineers with qualification and validation of new or changed tooling or parts.
- Work from written or verbal instructions, detailed engineering drawings, and interrogate 3D models to establish inspection criteria and measurements.
- Training of QA/Manufacturing/Engineering personnel to execute measurement methods and inspection equipment operations.
What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:
- A High School Diploma and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Metrology in a Lab Environment.
- 5 years CMM/Scanning/VMM programming is required utilizing CALYPSO, and INSPEC or other similar programming is required.
- College or Technical degree in a field related to Engineering or Science (preferred).
- ASME GDTP Technologist level certification 2009 (preferred).
- Proficient in set-up and operation of inspection equipment.
- Proficient in Gauge R&R and test method validation.
- Ability to apply the scientific method and root cause analysis tools to investigate metrology challenges.
- Proficient in MSA metrology methods.
- Proficient in mathematical applications- Algebra, Geometry, & Trigonometry.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word & Excel.
- Good working knowledge of SPC and Minitab.
- Curiosity, enjoys investigating problems, understanding, and learning.
- Experience presenting findings and proposals in meeting environment before 3-10 people.
- Strong oral and written English communication skills are required.
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills, experience training and presenting a plus.
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection methods and tools used to determine product acceptance.
- Ability to investigate and learn new technologies within metrology.
- Familiarity with Lean and 5S techniques a plus.
- Familiarity with statistical tools, and analysis software and methods.
- Familiarity with risk analysis.
- Work independently on routine tasks with high attention to detail.
- An ability to work cross functionally and promote good working relationships with other teams, to determine priorities, state challenges productively, and solve problems is required.
- Ability to travel up to 10%.
